IUD-Chapter 121 Why is Aphrodite?

“This cannot be real?”

These words slipped out as Alisa unconsciously whispered. One can only imagine the magnitude of shock in Alisa’s heart when she spoke these words. Fang Li, although not as expressive as Alisa, was also rendered speechless by the scene before him.

At this moment, the scene unfolding before Fang Li was truly unimaginable, it was akin to a hellish landscape. The ground seemed to have collapsed on itself, turning everything in sight into ruins. The nearby mountains had been shaved off by almost half.

The rivers appeared as if they were wrung out like a rag, intermittent bursts of underground water gushed out through countless cracks in the shattered ground, and the entire scene looked as if torrential rain was pouring down on it, drenching every corner of the area.

In this place, there were fragments of Aragami flesh, abundant traces of blood, and craters resembling meteor strikes, leaving the scene riddled with holes.

Such a scene resembled a battlefield ravaged by countless artillery bombardments or a slaughterhouse that had just experienced brutal carnage, completely transforming the air and the land in this area.

Faced with this sight, even Fang Li didn’t know what to say. Only Alisa, with a voice that only Fang Li could hear, managed to squeeze out these difficult words.

“Did a single Aragami really cause all this?”

If that were true, then it would be truly terrifying, wouldn’t it? Just a single Aragami turning the surroundings into this state, how did humans manage to survive in this world till now?

After all, Aragami of the same type existed all around the world. For example, the Far East’s Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susanoo, or Europe’s Zeus, Hera, and Ouroboros. These were all Deusphage Species that Amamiya Rindou had mentioned, that were on par with Aphrodite.

If any of these Deusphage Species could cause such destruction, then it was only a matter of time before they devastated the entire Earth. Would there be any place for humans to survive under such devastation?

The answer was undoubtedly the cruelest one. There was no doubt that people had always been waiting for the day when Aragami would be completely defeated. However, the scene before them shattered any remaining hope in their hearts, leaving nothing of the hope they harbored behind.

So, this was hell. A hell that made humans realize the cruel reality and despair for the future.

“Hu…” Fang Li took a long breath, it looked as if he was trying to exhale the suppressed emotions in his heart, and regained his composure.

Then, Fang Li surveyed the gruesome scene before him and eventually turned his gaze in one direction. There, on the ground, there was a very distinct trace of something as it looked as if something had plowed through it.

Moreover, the trace was enormous, indicating that the size of the entity that passed through here should not be underestimated.

Seeing this, Fang Li immediately determined their target’s whereabouts.

“Aphrodite should have gone in that direction.” Fang Li’s gaze turned toward the distance as he muttered, “That direction seems to be the way to the Russian Branch, right?”

At this moment, even Fang Li began to doubt his thought process.

“What on earth is in the Russian Branch?” Fang Li asked Alisa, “Why would an Aragami of this rank go to such lengths to attack that base, crossing the seas from its habitat?”

Upon hearing Fang Li’s words, Alisa’s expression became cloudy and uncertain.

Finally, Alisa spoke up.

“I don’t know what’s in the Russian Branch. After all, I only recently joined the Russian Branch and haven’t interacted with anyone,” Alisa looked at Fang Li and said, “But after confirming the news of Aphrodite’s attack, I remember the captain saying something like this.”

Alisa recalled the events and recounted what the captain had said.

“Why is it Aphrodite again?”

Those were the words the captain had spoken.

“Again?” Fang Li was stunned for a moment, then started pondering.

Again?

Could it be that Aphrodite had some kind of connection with the Russian Branch from before?

“What exactly did the captain do?” Fang Li swore to himself that after this incident, he would find out the truth no matter what.

It was not only for his Side Quest but also to repay the captain for his previous situation caused by his schemes.

“In any case, let’s continue pursuing,” Fang Li suppressed his thoughts and said, “We’ve already come this far, there’s no reason not to continue.”

Alisa neither nodded nor shook her head, but it was clear that she shared the same thought as Fang Li. However, before they could move forward, a sudden voice interrupted them, causing both Fang Li and Alisa to freeze on the spot.

“What are you doing here?”

Along with the resounding voice, Fang Li and Alisa saw the owner of the voice.

In a corner not far away, a figure appeared seemingly out of nowhere, slowly approaching Fang Li and Alisa.

It was a young boy with dark-colored skin, wearing a hooded coat, with white hair, and carrying a jagged Greatsword on his shoulder.

“Soma?” Fang Li exclaimed in surprise.

The newcomer was Soma, one of the members of the Far East Branch’s First Unit.

However, Soma did not show any joy or goodwill towards familiar faces. He stared at Fang Li and Alisa and uttered coldly.

“This is not a place where people like you can just casually come in. Do you really find your lives so worthless?”

Upon hearing Soma’s unfriendly words, Alisa’s complexion darkened.

But Fang Li, as if accustomed to such hypocrisy from others, asked Soma without much reaction, “Are you the only one here? What about Captain Amamiya and Sakuya-San?”

Soma didn’t answer and remained silent for a moment. Then he turned around and coldly said, “If you want to know, come and find out for yourself.”

After speaking, Soma walked away without waiting for Fang Li and Alisa.

It had to be said that Soma successfully aroused Alisa’s anger. Therefore, Alisa, with an expressionless face, said to Fang Li, “Is this how the God Eaters from the Far East Branch are?”

“They have quite the personality, don’t they?” Fang Li smirked and said, “Although I think the God Eaters in the Russian Branch also have quite the personality, especially some of the rookies.”

With that, Fang Li left Alisa behind and caught up with Soma.

Though a flash of fury appeared in Alisa’s eyes, she didn’t say anything and followed suit.
