“Excadrill, Swords Dance.”
The air currents surged as Excadrill waved its claws, gathering a mysterious power.
Kaveh glanced at Excadrill and issued his first command.
Volcarona flapped its wings, and flames followed the air currents, forming a swirling vortex. The flames grew larger and larger until, with a boom, Fire Spin was unleashed, spiraling toward Excadrill.
“Disperse it with Swords Dance!”
Excadrill continued to perform Swords Dance. At the moment Fire Spin descended, the flames merged with Excadrill, which maintained its Swords Dance stance, preventing Fire Spin from penetrating its body. However, as countless flaming scales fell, the flames intensified rapidly, and Fire Spin turned into a towering inferno, engulfing Excadrill completely. After a loud explosion, the unconscious Excadrill appeared before everyone.
It lost so easily…
On the Frontier Club’s side, everyone gulped nervously at seeing Excadrill’s swift defeat in the first round.
When the flames flared up, even from a distance, they could feel the intense heatwave.
Moreover, looking at the Grassy Terrain around Excadrill, now burnt and barren, the temperature of the flames was evident…
Kaveh waited for the Castelia Club to send out a new Trainer with a smile on his face, as if the previous battle was just a warm-up.
Next up was Ethan from the Frontier side, a Trainer who is steady and has a solid foundation.
Facing Volcarona, he chose to send out a Starmie.
The battle began with Starmie using Hydro Pump, but Volcarona countered with a Flamethrower that neutralized it, filling the air with thick steam.
Even a Water-type move wasn’t effective against Volcarona…
Volcarona then repeated its previous tactic, unleashing another Fire Spin. But Starmie wasn’t Excadrill; as the Fire Spin descended, it used its psychic power to push it back, disrupting the flames with Confusion. But as Volcarona created a Hurricane, sweeping countless flaming scales to reinforce Fire Spin, the intensity of fire changed instantly. Borrowing the wind force, it directly overpowered the Confusion and slammed into Starmie’s surroundings with a loud bang.
Boom!!
After the massive impact, Starmie didn’t lose consciousness as, at the critical moment, it used Recover to heal some injuries.
However, Ethan looked grimly at Volcarona. Realizing the tyrannical power of Volcarona’s moves…. he found it hard to imagine how he could overpower the opponent with sheer force.
“That Volcarona’s flaming scales significantly enhance its fire.”
Hogan clenched his hand tightly, recognizing the disparity between this Volcarona and the Pokémon that Ethan and Shiro had… The destructive power of their moves was on a completely different level.
“This is bad.”
Watching Ethan deep in thought, Hogan, standing on the referee stand, muttered to himself. This Kaveh and his Volcarona were clearly the aces of Castelia. Sending them out in the second match—Castelia must be very confident.
Hydro Pump was ineffective, and both Ice-type and psychic power moves were ignored by Volcarona. Starmie was in deep trouble. In the end, Ethan attempted to disturb Volcarona with Confuse Ray, but in the face of overwhelming power, technique can’t prevail. Under the powerful suppression of Fire Blast, Starmie was sent flying.
On the Frontier side, Terrance observed the battle. Up until now, his attention had been focused on Volcarona’s aura. Judging by the pace, this Volcarona didn’t seem to have expended much stamina; its previous moves appeared almost effortless.
“That’s impossible…” Terrance frowned. This Volcarona’s stamina was abnormal; despite such continuous attacks, its aura remained stable, its battle rhythm was flawless. Something was off—
Terrance noticed something was off with the Sunny Day. The previously remaining energy of the sun was dissipating far too quickly. After just a few exchanges, it was already close to extinguishing.
“That Sunny Day earlier…it was the key to making Volcarona so powerful…”
“Two down. This Volcarona has already taken out two of our Pokémon without a scratch. In total, they now have an advantage of one Pokémon over us.”
The battles continued, and what Terrance could see was also noticed by the two Trainers acting as referees. However, Hogan wasn’t pleased. As time passed, in the second round of Ethan and Kaveh’s battle…
Ethan’s Pokémon was once again overpowered by Volcarona, losing the ability to fight in what was nearly a one-sided match!
“This Volcarona still hasn’t expended much stamina!”
Sunny Day had faded, but the second round was over. Ethan was left with only one Pokémon, while Kaveh still had all three, with Volcarona still retaining most of its stamina. Facing such a situation, even Ethan, who usually remains calm during battles, couldn’t help but feel heavy-hearted when facing such an opponent.
Ethan, who is steady and has a solid foundation, found himself at a severe disadvantage against a Trainer far stronger than himself.
“Kaveh is switching Pokémon…”
In the third round, Kaveh surprisingly recalled his powerful Volcarona and sent out a new Pokémon.
“Roar—”
However, when this Pokémon appeared, it exuded an even stronger aura than Volcarona, causing the expressions of the four Frontier Trainers to change instantly.
This Pokémon resembled a theropod dinosaur, predominantly blue with some black fur, three pairs of wings on its back, and two rows of eerie purple patterns on its belly. Most unsettling was its three heads and a body without legs. This vicious-looking Pokémon, with its tail swaying, floated in mid-air, its terrifying appearance exerting a strong pressure on everyone.
“Hydreigon…”
Kaveh switched out his Pokémon, but instead of feeling relieved, Ethan grew even more nervous. Seeing Hydreigon’s menacing expression, Ethan’s Sceptile stood solemnly to one side, staring intently at its opponent.
“Sceptile, this opponent won’t be easy. Be careful.”
“Sce~~ptile~!”
Sceptile nodded. Following Ethan’s command, it became a green blur, speeding towards Hydreigon. The leaves on its arms gleamed like blades as it ruthlessly chopped down at Hydreigon’s head. But what awaited Sceptile were three massive jaws made of dark energy, formed simultaneously by Hydreigon’s three heads. One jaw bit down on Sceptile’s blades in mid-air, with the other two jaws biting into Sceptile’s body!
“Cha…” With a loud bang, the Crunch move shattered, and Sceptile, heavily injured, dropped to one knee. Its strong will allowed it to lift its head, but upon seeing Hydreigon’s terrifying face using Scary Face, Sceptile froze momentarily before hurriedly retreating, its legs shaky—clearly frightened.
