Verdanturf Conference continued.
However, Terrance’s next opponent, having known Terrance’s strength, was even more nervous and timid than Sora.
This resulted in Terrance defeating the opponent even more easily than in the first Contest Battle, smoothly advancing to the finals!
Terrance’s opponent in the final was also quite strong, but that guy’s mood wasn’t great because the primary judging gave Terrance a large number of supporters. So, those supporting Terrance in the final will outnumber those supporting him.
This subtly created enormous pressure on Terrance’s opponent.
Winning the second match, Terrance descended from the arena, heading towards the lobby. Suddenly, he noticed a figure standing in the corridor.
With long straight cream-colored hair and a white dress, she stood out in the dim corridor.
“Terrance-senpai—”
Seeing Terrance coming down, Sora excitedly approached him.
After hesitating for a while, she finally made up her mind.
This time, Sora didn’t bring along her ever-present black rabbit plushie. Instead, she stood in front of Terrance, abandoning her previously meek demeanor.
“Please, accept me as your disciple!” On her fair and delicate face, her eyes were clearly somewhat evasive, but ultimately, her gaze fixed on Terrance’s face.
Witnessing Terrance’s battle, the inexperienced Sora hoped to shine like Terrance someday.
Take her as a disciple?
What’s gotten into her? Did she take the wrong medicine or something?….
Looking at her with a helpless expression, Terrance didn’t believe he is skilled enough to take on a disciple.
Apart from the skills, he also didn’t have the time for it.
Terrance rejected her with no room for negotiation and headed straight to the lobby.
Guiding her during the Contest Battle was already his limit.
In the somewhat dark corridor, only Sora remained there, dumbfounded. Faced with rejection, although she was prepared, but….
During the competition, everywhere was noisy, so Terrance blocked his ears, quietly staying alone.
Rejecting Sora was normal; at their age, the master-disciple relationship was no different from a joke.
With both of them still in their adolescent phase, even if Terrance was willing, he wouldn’t have the energy. He simply lacks the time, resources, and experience to impart the so-called knowledge to another person.
He simply learned some things earlier than others, but these things, as long as Sora was willing to put effort on Beautifly, understanding them was just a matter of time.
Every year, there were many rookies like Sora, and there were even rookies worse than her.
These people, some gradually matured through continuous travel or gained experience through setbacks.
There was also a part of people who, due to various factors, were incredibly lucky and got significant opportunities, making their growth smoother.
If a person travels with an excellent Breeder, an outstanding Trainer, even if they are ignorant about Pokémon knowledge, being influenced by them and aided by companions, they could gradually mature, right?
…
…
“Terrance! Terrance! Terrance!”
The crowd’s cheers were like a tidal wave, deafening.
Vivian stood in the center of the arena, delivering the final commentary.
“The two contestants have already entered the arena. In the final of the Verdanturf Conference, the winner will receive the Verdanturf Ribbon. I’m sure everyone is eagerly anticipating the outcome of the match, right?”
Terrance and his opponent, a young man around twenty, stared at each other from a distance. After a moment, Terrance withdrew his gaze, and both of them simultaneously took out their Poké Balls.
“Since both contestants seem rather quiet, let’s start the match immediately!”
“Five minute countdown, start!”
“Awoo~~~~~~~~”
“Awoo~~~~~”
The opponent’s Pokémon was a red-eyed, four-legged and blue-furred, canine Pokémon with yellow on its head and part of the body.
Manectric.
The evolved form of Electrike, considering the type matchup, this won’t be an easy battle for Beautifly.
But type doesn’t represent everything!
The young man’s Manectric indeed has some skills. It opened the battle by creating Electric Terrain and thunderclouds, sandwiching Beautifly in between the ground and the sky.
With the sparks emitted from Manectric’s mane and the interaction between Electric Terrain and the thunderclouds, it created an illusion of the entire sky being filled with electric currents.
It seemed like any slight movement from Beautifly would trigger paralysis caused by the electric currents.
The opponent played this move very skillfully. Manectric, like a king controlling thunder, arrogantly showed off its strength to Beautifly.
At the beginning, Terrance’s side lost momentum. This combination of moves reduced Terrance’s appeal points before he could counterattack.
‘Manectric is indeed tough to deal with,’ Terrance admitted, but the opponent overlooked one thing.
This is a Pokémon Contest, not a traditional battle.
Compared to a Coordinator, in Terrance’s eyes, the opponent looked more like a traditional Trainer, just relentlessly attacking.
Between the thunderclouds and Electric Terrain, electric currents pervaded like electric serpents, hissing with sparks. As Manectric unleashed its power, a series of lightning spread across the battlefield, all rushing towards Beautifly.
This was originally a cool set of moves, but it couldn’t hit Beautifly at all, driving the young man mad.
“Hey!! Are you only good at dodging?!”
The annoyed young man stared at Terrance indignantly. This was completely different from Terrance’ previous battle style.
“Do you think I’m stupid?” Terrance said unhappily.
The opponent created a double advantage with Electric Terrain and the thundercloud from the beginning. So, trying to fight head-on would only be futile.
Using Airflow Perception, Beautifly safely dodged as the opponent’s lightning struck.
However, the electric currents were too much concentrated together. Even though Beautifly dodged well, it couldn’t avoid being hit once. With Terrance’s appeal points dropping again, the young man was delighted.
But just a minute later, Electric Terrain gradually disappeared, leaving a bewildered Manectric on the ground.
Without the amplification from Electric Terrain, Electric-type moves would find it even harder to hit Beautifly.
Moreover, the opponent found that despite using these powerful moves multiple times, they only hit Beautifly once!
“You possess power, but accuracy is lacking, and speed needs improvement,” Terrance smiled. “Beautifly, Gust.”
Struck by the thunderbolt, Beautifly was indeed not feeling well, but one lightning strike couldn’t dampen Beautifly’s fighting spirit.
Gust?
This command puzzled everyone; the audience, judges, announcer and the young man.
What effect could Gust, this move, have on Manectric?
The answer is none.
Gust had no effect on Manectric. Beautifly gently flew up, flapping its wings, creating weak-looking gusts of wind.
Manectric felt the wind, and didn’t even consider dodging them. It was too weak, not even as powerful as the winds in stormy weather…
