On this day, the weather wasn’t very good. The winds blowing in the sky were somewhat noisy. The sky was devoid of any brightness as far as the eye could see and it made people feel that a storm was about to arrive, the entire sky was covered in dark clouds, appearing incredibly gloomy. It gave people the feeling that it wouldn’t be strange if lightning suddenly struck at any moment.
Under such a sky, military helicopters with spinning rotors flew in formation, one after another, braving the strong winds.
Fang Li was on one of those helicopters. Inside the cabin, soldiers dressed in military uniforms sat tightly packed in long rows of seats, holding their weapons. They maintained a serious and silent atmosphere, waiting patiently for time to pass.
Only Fang Li seemed somewhat unruly. Unlike the other soldiers who were standing in formation, he turned his head and looked out the window.
More accurately, he was looking at the scenery on the ground below. However, everything that met his eyes was nothing but a series of ruins.
The land was covered in dust and rubble. Buildings appeared as if they were half-eaten cakes and were in a state of disrepair. In the midst of those ruins, Fang Li occasionally caught a glimpse of one or two dark figures walking through.
Looking at this scene, Fang Li couldn’t help but mutter to himself.
“It’s really tragic…” Compared to the previous world, this world had fallen into an even deeper state of ruin. At least in the previous world, apart from the Fused Colony, no Kabane had the ability to alter the terrain.
But in this world, even the smallest Aragami possessed the ability to devour everything.
As the saying goes, an elephant might be strong and an ant might be weak but a group of ants can kill an elephant. With Aragami beings like these, once their numbers increased, even the smallest Aragami, if given enough time, would eventually leave the world full of holes.
That scene was now clearly presented before Fang Li. Perhaps hearing Fang Li’s words, the person next to him struck up a conversation with him.
“That’s just the way it is. Aragamis are too strong for us humans.” The one who said this was a cute-looking girl, she is also dressed in a military uniform, but she had a surprised and innocent look to her that seemed out of place.
She appeared to be around the same age as Fang Li. Her shoulder-length hair was a bright red, tied up into two braids. Looking at this young girl, Fang Li couldn’t help but feel a sense of familiarity in his heart.
“I’m sorry for suddenly talking to you.” The girl smiled awkwardly. “I’m Hibari. I was assigned as an Operator for this Mission and I am responsible for communications between the God Eater Units. Nice to meet you.”
“Hibari?” Fang Li was momentarily startled but soon remembered.
This young girl had a fair share of appearances in the original work, often seen in the command room. As an Operator, she was responsible for coordinating various God Eater teams and accurately relaying orders from higher-ups. She was quite active in the series.
Fang Li didn’t expect that she would be assigned to this Mission as well.
“I’m Fang Li.” Fang Li smiled slightly at Hibari and said, “As you can see, I’m just an ordinary soldier.”
“Ordinary soldiers don’t think about defeating Aragami.” Hibari lowered her voice and looked at Fang Li with a curious and admiring gaze as she spoke, “To be honest, no one expected you to say what you did at that time.”
“Is that strange?” Fang Li couldn’t help but say, “Captain Amamiya himself said we could raise any questions.”
“But generally, besides God Eaters, no one would think about fighting Aragami, right?” Hibari’s expression became somewhat downcast as she spoke. “After all, ordinary people can’t defeat Aragami. That’s why our world has become like this.”
As those words were uttered, the atmosphere between Fang Li and Hibari became somewhat heavy. Hibari seemed to have realized this and quickly said, “I’m sorry, I was being too self-centered. Actually, I…”
Before she could finish her sentence, the voice of the pilot resounded in the cabin.
“We’ve arrived at the Russian Branch.” However, as soon as the words were spoken, the pilot’s voice became panicked.
“What… what’s going on?” The panicked voice made all the soldiers in the cabin tense up.
Fang Li furrowed his brows and shifted his gaze toward the ground.
In the next second, Fang Li saw a base surrounded by thick steel walls. Tall buildings stood within the base. However, outside the walls of the base, black dots were swarming toward it like ants.
“That is…” Hibari couldn’t help but exclaim. “Aragami!”
Hibari’s words caused a sense of panic among the soldiers in the entire cabin.
“What’s going on?”
“Why are Aragami attacking the Russian Branch at this time?”
“Wasn’t it supposed to take three days for them to arrive?”
The entire cabin immediately descended into chaos and Fang Li’s brows furrowed even deeper as he saw this situation.
“Just the mention of Aragami’s name and the situation has already descended into chaos?” Fang Li whispered to himself.
Are these really well-trained soldiers? Of course, this also indirectly demonstrated how deeply terrifying Aragami were and how much fear had been ingrained in the hearts of the people in this world.
It wasn’t until a voice sounded that the chaotic situation in the cabin finally calmed down. It was the voice coming from an advanced device in the cabin.
“Operator, can you hear me?” It was Amamiya Rindou’s voice.
Hearing this voice, Hibari, who was sitting next to Fang Li, reacted immediately. She hurriedly sat in front of the device, picked up the headphones, and started operating it, responding, “This is A4, please give us instructions.”
In each helicopter, there was an Operator’s console, enabling them to issue commands to each aircraft at any time. Therefore, Amamiya Rindou’s voice should now be resounding in every helicopter.
Then, Amamiya Rindou spoke. “Next, the First Unit will proceed to intercept the Aragami’s attack. Each aircraft will land on its own and assist the Russian Branch.”
Leaving behind those words, Amamiya Rindou’s communication ended.
Then, Fang Li saw it. In the queue of helicopters, the cabin of one of them suddenly opened as Amamiya Rindou, Tachibana Sakuya, and Soma all came out of the cabin, and then, they suddenly jumped down one after another.
Shortly afterward, military helicopters began to descend toward the Russian Branch below.
In that instant, only Fang Li noticed that in the distance, a group of dark figures, like a swarm of dark clouds, were rushing toward them.
