“Hū————!”
The sound was like the roar of a typhoon.
The sonic boom that reverberated through the heavens and the earth disrupted the atmosphere, creating a shockwave that exploded outwards from the mist, now partially dispersed, like a tsunami.
The ground itself seemed to quake, with loose stones and sand swept up in the gust, forming a terrifying wave of force that surged toward the expedition team.
“————!”
Led by Crusch, the entire expedition team quickly reacted. They crouched low, covering their ears and noses, gripping tightly onto the reins of their Earth Dragons to avoid being blown away by the oncoming storm.
The Earth Dragons, however, were equally agitated. They emitted uneasy growls, stomping restlessly in the face of the storm. These creatures, known for their keen senses, possessed not only the Divine Protection of Wind but also an ability to anticipate danger.
This precognitive ability made Earth Dragons the preferred mode of transportation in this world, allowing their riders to detect and evade threats from demon beasts or wild creatures while traveling through the wilderness.
Now, facing one of the world’s Sandai Maju (Three Great Demon Beasts), it was only their rigorous training that kept the Earth Dragons from fleeing in terror.
The scene resembled an army caught in a tempest.
Many voices began to cry out.
“It’s… just a roar…!”
“Just a roar can cause this much commotion?!”
“Damned monster!”
People began to curse and shout.
However, no one noticed that while they were bracing against the gale, maintaining their balance, the enormous black shadow in the thinning mist ascended silently into the sky.
Then, it descended.
Only three people sensed it first.
One was Wilhelm, who kept his eyes fixed ahead despite the storm.
Another was Rem, with her extremely keen sense of smell.
And the last was Fang Li, who was acutely attuned to murderous auras.
All three raised their heads, looking up as the massive shadow fell from the sky like a looming black cloud, generating powerful air currents around its descending form. Each reacted swiftly.
“Rem!”
Fang Li called out to Rem.
“Yes!”
Rem smashed through the wooden driver’s seat, leaping into the carriage to grab the startled Emilia, holding her close.
“Everyone, disperse!”
Wilhelm’s shout echoed in the surrounding at the same time.
At this, many others noticed the disturbance above.
And then, the enormous shadow fell from the sky.
“BOOM————!”
With a thunderous crash, the ground trembled violently, and it looked as if an earthquake had appeared here.
Centered on the fallen shadow, a diameter of several hundred meters of bedrock shattered and collapsed under the immense impact, crumbling into dust without a doubt.
The shockwave spread out with incredible force.
“Aaah Aaah Aaah Aah————!”
Amidst the chaotic cries and screams, countless fully armed soldiers and magic users, along with their Earth Dragons, were thrown into the air like discarded debris, scattering among the shattered stones and rubble.
Had it not been for Wilhelm’s timely warning, everyone present might have been crushed beneath the massive black figure, reduced to a bloody pulp.
In the midst of the powerful shockwave, only a few managed to maintain their stance, riding the wind as they retreated.
“Ugh…!”
Crusch, holding Ferris tightly and gripping the reins of her Earth Dragon, ran through the chaotic storm, gritting her teeth and striving to distance herself from the epicenter of the impact.
Beside her, Wilhelm followed closely, his eyes fixed on the black shadow behind them, gripping his two thin swords tightly.
On the other side, Fang Li and Rem leaped into the air, riding the shockwave like surfers.
When the blast wave finally subsided, the grim scene was exposed.
On the collapsed ground, members of the expedition team lay scattered, groaning and wailing, struggling to get up from the ground.
The scene was akin to a vision of hell.
And this was only the beginning.
From the very start, the entire expedition team had been ambushed, their formation shattered.
“We were caught off guard, huh?”
Landing on the ground beside Rem, Fang Li muttered to himself, looking ahead.
One of the Sandai Maju (Three Great Demon Beasts), Hakugei (White Whale), finally revealed itself in full view to Fang Li.
In a nutshell, it resembled its namesake— a colossal white whale.
However, compared to an ordinary whale, this one was significantly larger.
In Fang Li’s knowledge, the largest whale on Earth is the blue whale, reaching about thirty meters in length, and it is considered the largest mammal on the planet.
But the white whale before him easily surpassed this record, measuring over fifty meters in length, nearly twice the size of a blue whale.
Additionally, Hakugei (White Whale)’s entire body was covered in white fur with backward-facing barbs, scythe-like pectoral fins on its belly, similarly shaped dorsal and tail fins, and numerous gill-like slits on its head and sides that opened and closed repeatedly.
On Hakugei (White Whale)’s head, a single, menacing horn marked it unmistakably as a demon beast.
This ferocious demon beast, rising from the collapsed ground like a whale surfacing in the ocean, twisted its massive body and soared into the sky again.
Everyone stared in stunned silence, unable to react for a long time.
Crusch, Ferris, and Wilhelm, all with grim expressions, watched the rampaging Hakugei (White Whale).
In this situation, the only one who remained calm was Fang Li, who excelled in such crises.
However, before Fang Li could act, the air around him froze.
“Whoosh————!”
The sound of something slicing through the air was heard.
A massive ice pillar, its tip sharpened, shot forward with a breaking sound.
“Pū Chī————!”
The sound of flesh being pierced suddenly echoed.
“Wuuuuū Wūūwū————!”
Hakugei (White Whale), ready to fly into the sky, let out a pained cry.
The members of the expedition team simultaneously turned their heads toward the source of the attack.
There, a silver-haired Half Elf girl stood, surrounded by shimmering ice crystals, with one of her hand aimed at the airborne Hakugei (White Whale). Her beautiful face radiated a holy light, and her purple eyes were filled with an unyielding will.
Then, a clear voice rang out in the air.
“I will not allow you to rampage any longer! Beast!”
The pure voice, capable of dispelling confusion, instantly wiped away the fear in everyone’s hearts.
Seeing this, Fang Li smiled.
“It seems the kind-hearted and righteous girl has been provoked.”
“What will happen next?”
