At this point, there was no need for guessing.

The person who hoped Fang Li would come here and get involved in the Royal Selection, even going so far as to reveal Fang Li’s pursuit of the Witch Cult information to Priscilla and guide Fang Li here, was none other than Roswaal.

Fang Li had been somewhat skeptical of Roswaal from the start due to various signs.

From the very beginning, Roswaal had seen Fang Li’s potential and wanted to bring him under his control. However, Fang Li had never agreed to this.

That didn’t mean Roswaal had given up.

Now, Roswaal had dragged Fang Li into Emilia’s camp in this way.

Roswaal must have anticipated Fang Li would not refute this situation, as doing so would damage Emilia’s already delicate reputation.

Fang Li could ignore Roswaal’s feelings, but he couldn’t disregard Emilia’s.

In other words, this clown had tricked Fang Li.

So, Fang Li, who had been somewhat suspicious of Roswaal, was not surprised by this confirmation.

Only Emilia was left feeling disoriented, not understanding what was happening.

Meanwhile, Fang Li and Roswaal exchanged glances— with a chilly look from Fang Li and a satisfied smile from Roswaal.

“What are you waiting for, Fang Li?”

Roswaal prompted with seemingly good intentions.

“Emilia is waiting for you.”

Fang Li cast a glance at Roswaal, then slowly stepped forward under the watchful eyes of everyone present.

“Fang Li…” Emilia seemed at a loss.

But Fang Li simply shook his head at Emilia and turned to face Marcho.

Then, he spoke.

“First of all, I must clarify that I am not a knight.”

This statement caused an uproar in the hall.

Fang Li, however, remained unfazed and continued with his declaration.

“I am not noble enough to wield my sword in service of someone else.”

“I only understand one thing.”

“And that is killing.”

Fang Li’s calm declaration sent a chill through everyone in the room.

The seriousness in the air was palpable, and the faces of those in attendance grew grave.

Even Reinhard and Julius appeared solemn.

The perceptive knights could tell Fang Li’s words were no joke.

Fang Li was someone who had walked through mountains of corpses and rivers of blood.

Understanding this, people in the hall expressed shock and disbelief.

In this tense atmosphere, someone ignorant stepped forward.

“This is ridiculous.”

A middle-aged man with a hunched back, fish-like features, a sickly pallor, and dark circles under his eyes spoke up.

“Why are a cursed silver-haired Half Elf and a killer allowed to act as if they are legitimate participants in this Royal Selection?”

The middle-aged man stepped out from the group of officials and addressed the Sage Council members seated above.

“Lords, this Royal Selection has serious issues. If we cannot resolve them, the kingdom will face a bleak future. I believe we should reconsider the candidates.”

He implied that the current candidates were unfit for the throne.

Some of the Sage Council members agreed.

“I concur. The current candidates are absurd.”

“What kind of candidates are these?”

“Crusch of the Karsten duchy is acceptable, but the rest lack the qualities of a king.”

“A foreign merchant, a widow who inherited her husband’s estate, a girl from the slums— are these the people who can become king?”

“And one of them is a Half Demon.”

Upon hearing the last statement, everyone directed disdainful and contemptuous gazes at Emilia.

This was hatred and rejection towards a silver-haired Half Elf.

The term “Half Demon” was a derogatory way of referring to Half Elfs.

As she was subjected to such disdain and the stares of scorn and rejection, Emilia hung her head. Though she appeared unfazed on the surface, her beautiful purple eyes were filled with sadness.

Meanwhile, the neurotic official continued to speak loudly.

“Silver hair and Half Elf! That appearance is a hallmark of the infamous ‘Envy Witch’ from the rumors. Just seeing such a person in front of us is enough to make us feel disgusted. Allowing her to ascend to the throne would be utterly absurd. If she succeeds, it won’t be long before the kingdom is destroyed!”

The neurotic official continued his diatribe.

“The citizens will never accept such a filthy existence as their ruler. If any Foreign nation hear that our king is a Half Demon, they will 0refuse to form friendly relations with us. They may even use it as an excuse to wage war against our country!”

“Therefore, she is a symbol of disaster and could never bring prosperity and peace to our kingdom!”

The harsh and offensive remarks echoed throughout the grand hall.

Despite this, Emilia kept her head bowed and silently endured the insults.

Until the next moment—

“Have you finished speaking?”

The same tone of calm indifference fell over the heated atmosphere like a bucket of cold water, quickly chilling it.

Everyone’s attention shifted towards the source of the voice.

Even Emilia was surprised and looked in the direction of the voice.

There, Fang Li was taking measured steps towards the high platform, in full view of everyone.

As he walked, he spoke.

“True to their nature, these bureaucrats only know how to talk big. Without flaunting their heritage, they can’t find a sense of superiority, can they?”

“Despite carrying the bloodline of nobles, your words are more despicable than those of the slum dwellers. Do you think this will hide your blatant fear of the ‘Envy Witch’?”

“Your words leave a bad taste.”

With these words, Fang Li ascended the high platform and stood beside the Dragon History Stone, resting his hand on it.

“Let me silence those foul mouths of yours.”
