The snowy island was surrounded by thick layers of ice, approachable only via an icebreaker or the official port.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
At the shore, several marines were pushing artillery, firing at the sea.
…
“This place… is so damn… cold…”
Liam and Robin shivered as they stepped into the snow and were hit by the icy wind.
Little Green popped its head out of Liam’s pocket. The Den Den Mushi was surprisingly adaptable and didn’t seem to feel the cold.
These creatures were remarkably resilient, able to endure extreme temperatures and varying climates, and their diet was flexible— they could eat almost anything humans could, though they preferred their specialized feed. Their bioelectric signals could even transmit flawlessly across the harsh, turbulent seas of the New World.
Liam, holding his iron rod, frowned slightly, realizing something was off.
“Ah, my hand is sticking…”
Robin’s face was flushed red with cold as she kept blowing warm air into her hands.
Liam beckoned to ‘B.I.B.’, and stuck his arm and the iron rod into the castle-like portal in its chest.
After warming up for a while, he tossed the iron rod into the ghostly City Castle.
When he pulled out his hand, he brought out two sets of down jackets, fleece-lined pants, and thick boots.
Before setting off from Lasgap Island, Liam and Robin had bought some clothes, including winter wear.
Liam dressed quickly, and Robin, not to be outdone, used her Devil Fruit ability to grow arms from her chest, back, legs, and feet, swiftly donning her clothes and boots.
“Are you still cold? Want to go inside the City Castle?” Liam, now bundled up, asked as they walked.
Robin trudged through the snow, shaking her head, “Breathing in some fresh air is nice too.”
“Alright then, let’s go. I saw a town not far ahead when we came out…” Liam observed the snow-covered mountains, pondering, “But where exactly are we… Since this is a winter island, it can’t be Drum Island, right?”
Islands on the Grand Line had unique climates due to special magnetic conditions, categorized into spring islands, summer islands, autumn islands, and winter islands, plus the natural four seasons, totaling sixteen different seasonal patterns.
The island Liam and Robin landed on was a typical winter island, surrounded by ice and snow year-round.
In the manga, Chopper’s homeland, Drum Kingdom, was a similar winter island.
Liam strongly suspected that ‘B.I.B.’ had led them to the Drum Kingdom.
But in this era, Pikachu hadn’t been born yet, so what was the point of coming here… Just as he was thinking this, a dark shadow darted out from around a snowy corner!
“Woof!”
A growl was followed by a bang of cannon fire.
What the heck?!
Liam was startled, getting hit by a cannonball while just walking?!
He leaped aside, avoiding the inexplicable cannon fire.
‘B.I.B.’ acted with him, wrapping Robin in armor and using the same technique as Liam, allowing her to utilize his strength and leap aside, avoiding the cannon fire.
Robin, falling into the snow, looked at her hands, puzzled by how she had dodged so quickly.
“Woof! Woof!” The culprit of the cannon fire barked at them from the snow.
It was a dog, but it was covered in suspicious mechanical devices…
“Good dog…” Liam approached with a grin, “Now… off you go!”
He quickly grabbed the mechanical device on the dog’s back and threw it aside with force!
The mechanical dog yelped and flew straight towards Robin!
Just as Robin was startled, the dog disappeared into thin air before it could hit her.
Only then did Robin realize she was wearing Liam’s “armor ghost.”
And… she suddenly understood that Liam’s “armor ghost” was truly a set of armor! The inside was actually empty, and there was no “ghost”…
“Stupid dog, attacking on sight, that’s too arrogant! Robin, go check it out.” Liam said annoyedly, calling to Robin before leaping towards her.
Robin: “…”
Though she roughly understood what was happening, seeing Liam pounce towards her and then disappear felt especially strange…
…
**Inside the Ghost City Castle, in the training ground.**
When Liam and Robin arrived, the modified dog was barking wildly, almost tearing the place apart.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Liam clapped his hands and pressed them to the floor, “Sage Art: Inorganic Reincarnation!”
A question mark slowly appeared above Robin’s head again as she heard this.
However, ‘B.I.B.’ understood immediately.
Utilizing the Castle-Castle Fruit ability, it manipulated the floor, walls, and ceiling to exude white fluid, binding the rampaging modified dog.
“Awooo! Awooo!”
The large wolf-like dog was tied to the floor by hardening substances and struggled to no avail, whimpering softly.
Liam walked over and with a casual wave, another stream of white fluid emerged from the floor, sealing the dog’s mouth.
That earlier cannon shot seemed to have come from this dog’s mouth…
That’s insane— this dog’s mouth could shoot artillery!
“It’s been modified by someone…” Robin crouched down to observe closely, astonished, “Are these all weapons?”
Liam patted the dog’s body, feeling its strength as it struggled, “It seems to be much stronger than an ordinary dog too!”
‘B.I.B.’ emerged halfway from the floor, reminding them: “Someone outside is looking for this dog…”
…
“Coconut! Coconut! Where are you?”
In the snowy landscape, a man dressed like an Eskimo, carrying a hunting rifle, was accompanied by a similarly well-bundled young girl. They were calling out.
“Are you looking for this?”
The man and girl turned to see a boy and girl standing in the snow, the boy holding the modified dog.
“Coconut!” The girl exclaimed happily.
“This thing jumped out and startled us!” Liam dropped the dog into the snow, and it immediately whimpered and ran back to the man and girl.
“I’m Kini, a local hunter. This is my daughter, Kidman,” said the Eskimo-like man. “We haven’t seen you two around before. Are you lost? We heard Coconut’s cannon earlier; are you alright?”
Liam replied, “If we weren’t alright, we wouldn’t be standing here… Don’t let such a dangerous dog roam around!”
Kidman hugged the modified dog, sticking out her tongue, “Coconut is very well-behaved, it’s not dangerous at all! It must have thought you were wild beasts from the mountain… Aaahhhhh!”
Her tongue, numbed by the cold, quickly retreated.
Robin asked, “We are indeed lost. Where are we?”
“Heh heh heh… Coconut is an animal modified by that genius!” Kini laughed, “This is the genius’s hometown, Karakuri Island, known as the ‘Future Country.’ Since you’re lost, come with us back to the town…”
‘That genius?’ Robin was intrigued.
Liam, however, immediately understood. This was the place where Pervert Franky was sent flying by Kuma’s paw.
The hometown of the genius scientist, Dr. Vegapunk.
…
Bang!
A pirate ship was destroyed by cannon fire outside the icy shore.
On the shore of Karakuri Island, the marines grumbled, “Dr. Vegapunk’s name is too influential. There’s always some daring pirate wanting to visit his hometown, hoping to find some valuable research…”
A comrade sighed, “Hopefully, in a few years, as the doctor’s name fades from public memory, there will be fewer pirate disturbances…”
