Liam asked, “What does it mean to be ‘born knowing’?”
Hancock, puzzled, replied, “If you could understand what it means, would it still be called ‘born knowing’?”
Robin, thinking for a moment, could somewhat grasp it. While she didn’t yet know what using Haki felt like, she made an analogy… It’s like how everyone is born knowing how to breathe or chew food, but who can really explain how these biological instincts work?
Liam said, “So you’re saying… Busoshoku Haki (Armament Haki), to you, is as simple as eating or drinking, and you even find it strange why others need to train so hard for it?”
Hancock blinked but didn’t speak. Her expression said it all: “You seem to understand.”
Liam naturally understood. He figured that if you grabbed any CP-9 agent, they’d probably feel the same frustration watching him so effortlessly master Rokushiki.
…
Haoshoku Haki, known as the “Conqueror’s Haki,” is an innate talent signifying the quality of a king.
Kenbunshoku Haki (Observation Haki) also has those naturally awakened, like the Skypiea girl Aisa. Her inherent “Heart Network” even rivaled Enel’s, who had the enhancement of the Goro Goro no Mi (Thunder Thunder Fruit).
With only three types of Haki in total, and if Haoshoku is innate and Kenbunshoku Haki has natural awakeners, it’s unlikely Busoshoku Haki wouldn’t have its own.
Thinking along those lines, Liam realized it wasn’t so surprising that Hancock had been born with Busoshoku Haki already awakened.
“But you’re wrong. It’s not just Busoshoku Haki that’s simple for me…”
Hancock brushed off her clean feet and stood up.
Liam and Robin looked at her as she continued, “Busoshoku Haki, Kenbunshoku Haki, and Haoshoku Haki… they’re all quite simple.”
Hissing, the red-spotted White Snake Salome coiled at Hancock’s feet, flicking its tongue.
“…,” Liam was speechless, confirming, “You mean to say, your Busoshoku Haki and Kenbunshoku Haki awakened by themselves?”
Hancock placed her hands on her slim, white waist and proudly raised her chin with a hum, “Yes!”
Liam leaned back in disbelief.
Busoshoku Haki, Kenbunshoku Haki, and Haoshoku Haki… All of them awakened from birth? Is she even human?
Liam asked, “Hancock, how old are you?”
Hancock replied, “Eleven.”
Liam looked up, and B.I.B., understanding his thoughts, conveyed an answer from the ceiling in Mandarin: She was captured by slavers when she was 12, which is easy to remember since it was the same year Luffy was born.
So, if he hadn’t shown up, according to the normal course of events, Hancock would be enslaved a year from now.
Hancock, oh Hancock, you’re so strong, yet how did you get captured by a few ordinary slavers?
Hmm… the manga never really mentioned whether those slavers were ordinary…
However, the fearsome reputation of the Kuja pirates was certainly highlighted in the manga. Other pirate ships and merchant vessels would flee at the sight of Kuja’s flag, even abandoning their ships and jumping into the sea to escape. The Kuja pirates would simply sail over and loot the empty vessels… For slavers to dare board such a fearsome Kuja pirate ship, they probably weren’t just ordinary criminals.
After all, who said that slavers in the pirate world had to be weak?
Moreover, the pirate world also had methods like poisoning…
Looking at the beautiful, powerful young girl in front of him, Liam found it hard to imagine the suffering she endured as a slave under the Celestial Dragons, the pain so deep that even remembering it made her tremble with fear.
“What’s with that look?” Hancock said, displeased. “So annoying! You still haven’t told me who you are.”
Liam replied, “You can call me Chopper Giorno.”
Their wanted posters had already been picked up by B.I.B. on the shores of Amazon Lily Island, so people here probably could recognize their faces.
“As for who we are… let’s just say we accidentally ended up in the Calm Belt! And then, another accident brought us to this island of women, that’s all…”
Robin gave him a side glance. Were they really “accidentally” in the Calm Belt?
They were clearly being chased to this place…
“So, you’re from the outside?” Hancock blinked, suddenly realizing something. “You’re the ones who defeated those animals on Rusukaina Island, aren’t you?”
“Rusukaina Island?” Robin said, hearing the name of the island for the first time.
“That’s right, it was us,” Liam nodded.
Hancock exclaimed in disbelief, “Really? I don’t believe it!”
She walked barefoot in circles around Liam and Robin. Could these two really have defeated the enormous beasts on Rusukaina Island?
Liam chuckled, “If you don’t believe it, we can fight again and find out. I think I’m pretty strong. You may know three types of Haki, but that doesn’t mean I’ll lose to you!”
Hancock glanced at him and then at the nearby golden armor missing an arm, suddenly realizing, “Are you one of those gatekeepers too? Ugh, how boring!”
Liam replied, “You won’t know if it’s boring until you try.”
“I said it’s boring, so it’s boring!” Hancock huffed, annoyed. She was always used to having her way, and now this person dared challenge her authority.
Liam shrugged, “Fine, boring it is. So, are we fighting or not?”
Hancock said, “I want to finish reading this book first.”
Salome brought over the book *Room*, raising its head proudly beside Hancock.
Liam insisted, “You can fight first, then read!”
Hancock retorted, “No!”
“Who cares what you want!” Liam waved his hand, “Go!”
Robin, standing by, sighed. She had thought Liam was going to fight himself.
The golden armor missing an arm charged at Hancock. Along the way, a glob of white fluid jumped up from the floor, transforming into a golden arm that attached itself back onto the armor.
B.I.B. used Kenbunshoku Haki (Observation Haki) to sense Hancock’s position and launched a double punch.
“We’re really fighting?” Hancock shouted in surprise. Not having time to use Kenbunshoku Haki, she raised her arms covered in Busoshoku Haki (Armament Haki) to block the punches. “What on earth is this thing?!”
She stepped back slightly, entwining Busoshoku Haki around her legs, ready to attack again. Though still young, Hancock was a proper Kuja warrior and had no qualms about engaging in battle.
…
“Still coming at me?”
Hancock stood there, panting.
Before her was no longer the golden armor, but now a suit of armor seemingly made of platinum, with little change other than its appearance. However, the power of this platinum armor had grown stronger, and significantly more formidable than the golden armor.
“Can’t fight anymore? Then let’s call it a day.”
Annoyed, Hancock glared at him but then noticed that the woman named Giorno and the girl named Jolyne were sitting together, casually eating a pile of fruit.
