Caesar Clown, 19 years old. A brilliant rising star in the scientific community in recent years.
His intellect is undeniable, and combined with his Logia-type Gasu Gasu no Mi (Gas Gas Fruit), the convenience it brings to his experiments has allowed his research to flourish.
Where others need a vacuum environment, equipment and various conditions for their experiments… he can simply create a vacuum area with his Gasu Gasu no Mi.
Where others require precise concentrations of oxygen or specific environmental parameters, he can easily purify oxygen from the air or even transform himself into a mass of oxygen or any other common gas.
In addition, the Logia’s basic ability to elementalise his body allows him to enter environments inaccessible to ordinary humans and observe experiments at close range.
This ability also allows him to experiment recklessly in dangerous conditions.
Ordinary explosions, collapsing laboratories, volcanic eruptions or even the splitting of the Earth… none of these pose a threat to the “Gas Man”.
Toxic gas leaks? No problem at all. He can turn into toxic gas himself.
And the other lab workers?
Please. Why should the lives or health of these indifferent fools matter to a genius like Caesar?
The mundane people who follow in his wake, changing faces from one batch to the next, are of no concern to Caesar. He doesn’t bother to remember them.
Shurororororo, got any fresh flowers lately?” Caesar strolled confidently through the pleasure craft, casually pulling a flamboyantly dressed girl over to him and exchanging a few flirtatious words.
With his other hand, he reached out to grab another passing beauty, laughing mischievously, “Shurororororo, this one… uh, Stussy Nee Sama?” Startled, he quickly pulled his hand back as if he’d been burned.
Behind her sunglasses, Stussy’s eyes gleamed faintly, and she smiled warmly, “Caesar San, since you’re here, make sure you have a good time.”.
Caesar grinned broadly, “Shurororororo, of course~ I just landed a big project recently, with plenty of profits to spare! Shurororororo~!”
He laughed a bit brazenly, not worried in the least that such talk would get out. After all, where was he? This was the territory of the Pleasure District, a major power in the underground world!
Everyone comes here to relax. If you can’t show your true face here, what’s the point of having fun?
Besides, siphoning off research funds is something he wouldn’t admit to once he left the ship. Even if the client found out, so what? They’re the ones begging him, waving money in front of this genius, not the other way around.
Such is the ease of being a genius! Shurororororo~
At that moment, a tall birdman, about the same height as the 3 metre tall Caesar, came out next to Stussy and cackled loudly, “Caesar, I heard you’ve been in contact with the Marines lately. That’s big news! I heard they’ve set up a scientific force – are they trying to recruit you?”
“It’s you, Morgan! You talk too much…” Caesar complained with a mischievous grin, though he looked rather proud of himself. Neither confirming nor denying the insinuation, he simply added: “Who wouldn’t want to possess the genius of someone like me? Shurororororo…”
Morgan, with his large bird-like wings, threw an arm around Caesar’s shoulder as they walked. “Come on, let me interview this great genius of ours…”
Caesar, still holding on to a striking young lady, walked with the bird man to the dance floor. He spread his long legs and settled comfortably into a plush sofa, laughing freely and engaging in casual conversation.
Caesar summoned a few more young women by various names – one to pour him drinks, one to cuddle him, another to rest his feet and massage his legs, while another gently stroked his cheek with her delicate hand.
Meanwhile, he joked with the Big News Morgans of the World Economic News, feeling at the height of his success and indulgence. Life couldn’t get much better for a genius like him. Even the boy on the second floor balcony couldn’t help but look in his direction.
“Hehehe… Envy me, boy!” Caesar thought, not taking it to heart. He smiled and turned his attention back to the girls around him. But then he noticed that the bird-man next to him had become unusually quiet.
“Morgan…” Caesar, enjoying the affection of the young women, turned to find Morgan looking up at the second floor, his eyes narrowed.
Caesar followed his gaze and realised that Morgan was looking at the two children near the railing, one of whom was the boy who had glanced at him briefly. “What are you looking at?” Caesar asked, confused.
Morgan cackled, “Genius Caesar, didn’t you recognise the boy?”
Caesar replied, “Why would I recognise a nobody? Is he famous or something?”
“They’re not nobodies!” Morgan’s eyes narrowed as he turned to Caesar with a mischievous smile. “These two blew up a research institute in Dr Vegapunk’s hometown that was under Marine protection. The Marines put a 100 Million Belly bounty on their heads! I’m surprised you haven’t heard about that…”
“Vegapunk…” Caesar’s face twisted in annoyance at the name. “And those two managed to pull that off? Pretty brave of them!”
Caesar looked up at the balcony again and saw the quiet girl standing next to the boy. The boy waved at him, smiling.
“That boy’s name is Chopperna Giorno. He used to be a skilled bounty hunter! But the real leader is the quiet girl next to him – Jolyne Kujo. It is said that they even fought Vice Admiral Borsalino and escaped unscathed! Now *that* is Big News!” Morgan explained casually.
“Big News? Then why wasn’t it in the papers?” Caesar asked, confused.
“At World Economic News, we don’t print unverified rumours.” Morgan smiled slightly. “That boy is waving at you. Maybe he’s your fan, Caesar! Aren’t you going to acknowledge him?”
“Who cares what he says?” Caesar scoffed at first, but then he rubbed his chin, his pride showing through. “A fan with a bounty of 100 Million belly, huh? Hehehe… Well, I’ll give him the honour of an answer.” Letting go of the fragrant woman in his arms, he raised his hand and waved back at the boy on the second floor balcony, flashing him a polite smile.
But the boy suddenly stopped waving, looking a little confused. He turned to the girl beside him, his Captain Jolyne, and said something to her. Then he grabbed her left arm.
“He seems frustrated!” Morgan teased, laughing.
Caesar shook his head smugly, “Greedy little brat! Well, I’ll go upstairs and see what he has to say to this genius! Hehehe…”
He saw the boy on the second floor plucking something invisible from Jolyne’s left arm – but there was clearly nothing in his hand!
The boy held the air in his hand, stuck out his tongue, closed one eye and pointed down at Caesar on the couch as if preparing to… shoot something? Then, with a flick of his hand, he gestured down to the dance floor.
“What did he just do? Air?” Caesar chuckled, half confused, half amused. “These fans are really weird these days! Hehehe… Maybe he’s trying to greet me, the Gasu Gasu no Mi genius, by playing with air?”
Genius Caesar was about to turn his body into gas and fly up to the balcony to give his fan a closer look at his idol. But as he was about to elementalise, suddenly…
*Thud!* Caesar fell to his knees on the soft sofa.
“…?!”
A question mark seemed to hover over Caesar’s head as beads of sweat formed on his brow. He tried to elementalize again and jump to his feet, but…
*Thud!*
Caesar had never felt his body so heavy before.
