After seeing the exposed white bone, Gamora’s growing sense of unease intensified. She walked briskly to the side of the white bone and immediately fired her weapon, piercing the ground.
Subsequently, Gamora came across a relatively intact, unidentified lifeform’s skeletal remains.
“What is this…?” Gamora muttered to herself, her confusion growing as she gazed at the skeletal remains of a species she couldn’t identify.
It wasn’t unusual to find the skeletal remains of lifeforms on a planet, but this location was not very far from Ego’s residence. Given the image he had presented to Star-Lord, he didn’t seem like someone who could tolerate such a thing happening near his home.
*Rumble, rumble…*
Just as Gamora was crouching down to examine the skeleton, about fifty meters in front of her, the previously flat ground suddenly collapsed into a large pit, and a cloud of dust billowed out of the deep hole.
The moment the ground cracked open, Gamora had already assumed a defensive posture and stepped back a few paces, her weapon trained in the direction of the deep pit. After waiting for a moment and realizing there was no imminent danger emerging from the deep pit, Gamora relaxed slightly and cautiously approached.
*Thud…*
Her combat boots met the edge of the deep pit as Gamora leaned over to peer inside. Upon seeing the situation within the pit, even though Gamora had mentally prepared herself for it, her entire body still trembled involuntarily.
As Gamora looked into the pit, her vision was filled with countless skeletal remains of various bizarre lifeforms piled on top of each other. Despite Gamora having witnessed numerous acts of genocide of various races during her time with Thanos, the sight of these remains still sent a shiver down her spine.
“What are these…?!” She murmured, fighting back her trembling.
Taking a deep breath while standing at the edge of the pit, Gamora waited until she had calmed down before slowly descending into the pit’s depths.
As Gamora ventured deeper into the pit and saw more and more skeletal remains, she had a growing premonition. Perhaps she was about to discover the source of her nagging unease, and these countless bones hidden here might be one of Ego’s well-kept secrets.
“These bones… they belong to various lifeforms… It doesn’t seem like a burial ground for a single or even a few species. It’s more like… it’s more like these lifeforms were deliberately collected and then killed and buried here!” Carefully examining the skeletal remains to determine their origins, Gamora’s sense of astonishment continued to grow.
Gamora had experienced a lot over the years, accompanying Thanos and witnessing many other races in the universe. However, the number of different species represented by these skeletal remains far exceeded her prior knowledge. Some even appeared to be hybrids—”crossbreeds!”
“Hybrids?! Could it be… Star-Lord?! Danger!!”
After identifying several characteristics of hybrid features among the skeletal remains, Gamora’s conjectures about Ego became clearer. With a low exclamation, she turned and ran out of the deep pit.
Star-Lord was currently alone with Ego, and it was possible that Ego was about to reveal his true intentions. Looking at the countless skeletal remains in the pit, it was clear that Ego’s intentions were far from allowing Star-Lord to inherit the power of this planet.
*Vrrrrrrrr…*
However, just as Gamora rushed out of the pit, there was a roaring sound from above her. Gamora was no stranger to this sound—it was the noise generated by a spaceship’s rapid approach!
In the next moment, dozens of energy beams shot toward her from the sky. Gamora, who had honed her skills under Thanos for many years, managed to dodge these attacks by a hair’s breadth and avoid being hit.
In the midst of Nebula’s furious attacks, Gamora was not merely fleeing; she was also actively fighting back. Each time she turned to fire at Nebula’s spaceship, she inflicted damage on it.
So, when Nebula, determined to chase Gamora at all costs, dived into the deep pit without hesitation, her heavily damaged spaceship finally exploded upon impact with the bottom of the pit. It plowed through the skeletal remains and even sent the missile launcher that had been hanging under the spaceship flying.
Thus, when Nebula, somewhat battered, crawled out of the cockpit of her heavily damaged spaceship, she found Gamora aiming the remaining missiles at her. Without hesitation, Gamora fired the remaining missiles.
*Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh…*
The few remaining missiles, trailing flames, homed in on Nebula. However, Nebula jumped from the wreckage of her spaceship, narrowly avoiding the missiles.
*Rumble, rumble!*
The impact of the missiles caused a massive explosion, completely collapsing the deep pit that had previously only had a crack, revealing even more skeletal remains.
These skeletal remains, buried together for an unknown number of years, had been silently enveloped by Ego’s planet. But Gamora, for some reason, seemed to sense their resentment and anger.
Of course, this was not the time to mourn or feel sorry for these skeletal remains. Just as Nebula, slightly disheveled, climbed out of the wreckage of her spaceship, she saw Gamora shouldering a missile launcher and aiming it at her. Then she fired the remaining missiles.
