Upon hearing Tony suddenly speak, both Eddie and the Venom symbiote within him were stunned. They couldn’t believe that Tony could monitor their consciousness exchange.
“This guy!… He can’t possibly know everything we’re saying, can he?” Venom’s initially fierce tone gradually softened after a moment of shock, ending with a touch of unease as it communicated with Eddie.
“I… I don’t think so!” Eddie, accustomed to Venom’s mood swings, wasn’t surprised by the sudden change. Besides, as an ordinary human being, he wasn’t a threat to Tony.
While Eddie and Venom exchanged these cautious thoughts in their minds, Tony calmly observed them. On the side of the light screen that Eddie and Venom couldn’t see, aside from the scan results for Eddie, there was a set of timely changing data, resembling the jumps and fluctuations of brainwaves.
“It seems that you two really are engaging in consciousness exchange. Don’t be surprised. Eddie, you’re fundamentally an ordinary human from Earth. Even though your body has been partially enhanced by Venom, your brain hasn’t undergone significant changes. Venom’s consciousness, or rather its thoughts, although very different from humans, has evolved or adapted to communicate with us. As for the fluctuations in brainwaves typical of an ordinary human on Earth, I can detect them easily.”
After explaining this, Tony redirected his gaze from Eddie and resumed observing the data on the screen. While there were still some details left unexplained, his words were sufficient for both Eddie and Venom to understand.
For Tony, Eddie wasn’t the first individual to be host to such an exotic lifeform like Venom. Over a year ago, when Tony and Lin Rui were not as familiar with each other, the “Venom” that he had once locked in a highly secure laboratory had parasitized Spider-Man Peter Parker.
Although by the time Venom had come into Tony’s possession, Peter had already rid himself of the symbiote’s influence and control, Tony had later discussed with Peter in detail his experiences while being host to Venom. Therefore, Tony possessed first-hand information about Venom and the coexistence of a host.
Furthermore, despite not having stable control over Venom, Tony had conducted extensive research over the months, which provided him with a foundational understanding of this extraterrestrial lifeform. For instance, their capacity for emitting ideological signals had evolved to facilitate direct communication with humans.
However, Tony couldn’t monitor the content of such consciousness exchanges, as the human mind remained a somewhat mystical entity, and current technology couldn’t detect the specifics of mental communications.
Having listened to Tony’s explanation and seeing him nonchalantly continue to observe the data, Eddie and Venom both sighed in relief. The thought of Tony being able to monitor their mental exchanges was terrifying.
“This Tony Stark is truly formidable! How can Earth have someone so terrifying?” Venom, still cautious, tried to keep its mental presence minimal.
Tony had only explained why he detected Eddie and Venom’s consciousness exchange but hadn’t revealed if he could discern the content of their conversations. Thus, Venom, who had been fierce moments ago, didn’t dare to continue in that tone.
“Well… he’s just one facet of him. Perhaps, you can take a look at the records in my memory about Iron Man Tony Stark. But those are just his public appearances. Now it seems that the real Tony Stark is even more enigmatic,” Eddie, now recovered from his initial shock, stated calmly.
After all, he was still a regular Earth human, and Tony wouldn’t pose a threat to him.
Following his statement, Eddie took a step toward Tony. He ignored Venom’s tense presence in his mind and stood next to Tony, both of them observing the screen displaying a series of data related to Eddie’s body.
As Eddie’s gaze remained fixed on the continuously refreshing rows of data, his previously calm expression gradually turned stern.
Exhaling softly, Tony appeared to notice Eddie’s change in demeanor. After reviewing a set of new data on the screen, Tony paused the display and turned to the robust man beside him. Eddie’s expression had grown increasingly serious.
“Eddie, do you have any questions?”
“Um… Mr. Stark, I don’t have any questions!” Eddie replied, shaking his head vigorously upon hearing Tony’s inquiry.
“Well, I suppose not, since you probably can’t make sense of this data. Your physical readings have been consistently stable. Although there’s some fluctuation in your brainwaves, it’s not intense. Even if you and Venom are communicating, it shouldn’t be anything too aggressive.”
Tony didn’t pay much attention to Eddie’s embarrassed expression after hearing his explanation. Instead, he turned his gaze back to the data on the screen. Although Eddie had joined SHIELD and undergone similar tests, he hadn’t received the results, so he naturally didn’t refuse this opportunity.
“Eddie! Is your brain malfunctioning? Are you willingly becoming a guinea pig for him?” After Eddie uttered those words, Venom’s voice resounded in his mind with a low growl.
“Well, since we’re already here, why not let them study us a bit more? Besides, I want to see what’s so special about us in this state. We shouldn’t miss out on any unexpected gains,” Eddie responded nonchalantly, ignoring Venom’s lack of confidence.
While Eddie and Venom continued their mental exchange, Tony spoke again, “Alright, I actually have a series of research projects related to Venom. If Eddie has the time, it would be even better.”
Eddie and Venom: “…”
