After the discussion about the God of the Holy Bible ended, most of the girls retired to their rooms to rest. It had been a day filled with too many events, too much shocking information for them to process. They needed time to take it all in.
Rias called Venelana and Grayfia into her room. It seemed she wanted to talk to her mother and sister-in-law. Tenraku told Marion and Burent to prepare a room for Venelana and Grayfia.
Venelana and Grayfia no longer felt the need to hide their identities, at least not within the confines of their home. What happened during their conversation remained a secret until much later, when Venelana and Grayfia emerged from Rias’ room.
“Rias would like to see you in her room,” Grayfia informed Tenraku as she approached him.
“What does Rias need?” Tenraku asked, nibbling at a snack while holding his two dragon god pets.
“I’m not sure,” Grayfia replied.
“You little troublemaker, you’re on your own now,” She added with a chuckle, while Venelana grinned, indicating that they both knew the purpose behind Rias’ summoning, but chose not to reveal it to Tenraku.
A feeling of foreboding crept over Tenraku, but he decided to see what Rias wanted. Could Rias really devour him for something he might have done?
Tenraku set his two pets down and instructed Marion and Burent to escort Venelana and Grayfia to their room before he went to Rias’ room.
“Rias, is everything okay?” Tenraku asked quietly as he entered the room and hugged Rias.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine now,” Rias replied, leaning against Tenraku’s chest.
“Do you need anything from me?”
“Not really, I just wanted to talk to you,” Rias replied.
Relieved by her answer, Tenraku relaxed.
Fortunately, Rias seemed to be unaware of his earlier conversation with Venelana and Grayfia.
With a feeling of relief, Tenraku sat down with Rias on a nearby chair, and she snuggled quietly against him.
“Tenraku, I had a long talk with Mother and Grayfia earlier, and I learned about everything they’ve done for me.”
“Does that make you uncomfortable?” Tenraku inquired.
“Yes. I never realized how much pain and resentment Mother and Grayfia have been carrying all this time, while I’ve been enjoying carefree happiness. It makes me feel guilty.”
“They only wanted the best for you, Rias. You don’t have to blame yourself,” Tenraku reassured her.
“I understand, I really do. But I still can’t shake this feeling of unease.”
“Now that you know, you can face the pain and resentment together in the future, and I will be there to help you,” Tenraku said.
“Thank you, Tenraku. Thank you,” Rias said, her voice filled with gratitude.
As they clung to each other, Rias poured out her heart to Tenraku, who listened patiently and comforted her. Eventually, Rias seemed to calm down.
Just as Tenraku thought their heartfelt conversation was coming to an end, Rias suddenly sat up straight, placed her hands on Tenraku’s shoulders and stared directly into his eyes.
“So, Tenraku, can you tell me about your conversation with Mother and Grayfia?” she asked.
A heavy silence fell over the room and Tenraku’s expression froze. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
She knows!
She knows everything!!!
“Ri-Rias, didn’t you just say that you wanted to talk to me?” Tenraku stammered.
“That was then, this is now.”
“Why, Tenraku, are you scared now?”
Rias gently stroked Tenraku’s cheek with a tender, beaming smile. His body stiffened as he thought, “How can I not be afraid? Rias, you have no idea how scary you are right now!
In truth, Rias didn’t look scary at all. She remained as elegant, beautiful, and charming as ever. But someone couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous.
“I told you before, didn’t I? I learned everything from Mother and Grayfia,” Rias said quietly.
“Indeed, Tenraku, you are quite bold,” She continued. “You made a deal with Mother and Grayfia, didn’t you? They promised to give you everything they have in exchange for avenging them by eliminating the God of the Holy Bible.”
Rias’s voice was soft, but Tenraku’s heart pounded like a drum. What a mistake! Tenraku could not understand what Venelana and Grayfia were thinking. They even told Rias about it. They should have kept it from her!
The situation was bad, really bad. Rias seemed a bit threatening now. If he wasn’t careful, today could end with him being caught off guard!
But he hadn’t defied fate yet. He had not become a god. He refused to be taken by surprise, ah!
“I’m sorry, Rias,” Tenraku said with a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. “Is that your answer, Tenraku?”
Rias’ eyes showed no emotion. “I see.”
“I know that you might be very angry after learning about these things, but I’ve never regretted what I’ve done. Even if I could do it all over again, I would make the same decisions,” Tenraku said.
“If you are angry or resentful, then hit me, scold me. Whatever punishment you want to give me, I’ll accept it,” he added, closing his eyes, seemingly resigned to whatever fate awaited him at Rias’ hands.
When Rias unexpectedly asked Tenraku to explain the situation with her mother and Grayfia, it startled him. He had been apprehensive, wondering if he should deny or defend himself, but in the end, Tenraku decided to erase those thoughts of evasion.
What is done, is done. There is no point in hiding. Boldly admitting it leaves nothing to hide!
Inwardly, he decided to endure whatever punishment Rias would mete out until she calmed down.
To Tenraku’s surprise, after what seemed like an eternity of waiting, there was no punishment from Rias. When he opened his eyes, he saw tears streaming down Rias’ face, a sight he hadn’t expected.
