EPHS-Chapter 493 Rossweisse’s Resentment

After leaving the hundred-yen store, Tenraku and Rossweisse found themselves in a secluded spot. Rossweisse laid out a magic array, and all the purchased items turned into light dust and disappeared. Rossweisse had already set coordinates in her room, so all the items she bought should have been directly transported back home.

“Tenraku, I’m sorry for making you accompany me on this and then making you foot the bill in the end,” the Valkyrie lady said somewhat embarrassedly.

“I’ve already said it’s fine, and being able to go on a date with Rossweisse is a win for me. Other guys don’t even have the chance.” Tenraku shook his head, unfazed.

With a blush on her face, Rossweisse felt a bit embarrassed, thinking that Tenraku was indeed adept at dealing with girls like them. Despite knowing that he was just being polite, she couldn’t help but feel a little happy inside.

“How about I treat you to coffee? As a thank you for earlier, please don’t refuse,” Rossweisse suggested.

“Haha… I had no intention of refusing. Let’s go now,” Tenraku replied.

“Okay!”

They quickly found a nice coffee shop on the street and walked in together.

“Welcome, what can I get for you two?” the enthusiastic waiter greeted them.

“Two cups of coffee, please. Thank you,” Rossweisse ordered for herself and Tenraku.

“Sure, please wait a moment,” the waiter replied, then went to prepare their order.

Rossweisse and Tenraku found a seat near the window in the cozy and elegant coffee shop. It was a perfect place for a couple’s date, and they even saw several other couples sitting not far away.

“Please enjoy your drinks,” the waiter said as they brought the coffee to the table.

With everything they needed—coffee, milk, sugar, and utensils—Rossweisse added some sugar and milk to her coffee, then stirred it with a spoon.

“Don’t you guys like bitter coffee?” Rossweisse asked, surprised by Tenraku’s actions.

“That’s just something foolish guys do to appear mature. Who can stand such a bitter taste?” Tenraku replied, shaking his head.

Rossweisse couldn’t help but chuckle as she glanced at the other tables, where the men grimaced but pretended to enjoy their bitter coffee while their companions watched amusedly.

“It’s… it’s really like this,” Rossweisse said, amazed.

As they sipped their coffee, Rossweisse seemed to reflect on something.

“Thinking about it, this is my first time going on a date with a guy… even though this can’t be considered real,” she said, feeling a bit sentimental.

“Yeah, everyone at home knows. After all, Rossweisse is a Valkyrie with a history of being single, almost as old as she is,” Tenraku replied matter-of-factly.

“I… I don’t want it to be like this. I’ve also thought about finding a brave and having a boyfriend to experience love!” Rossweisse blurted out, her face flushing.

“With Rossweisse’s excellence, it should be easy to find one. Why haven’t you tried?” Tenraku asked, puzzled.

“Because… because…”

“Because of studying and work?”

“Yeah, something like that…”

Seemingly finding it difficult to articulate, Rossweisse hesitated before continuing:

Back in her hometown, I was always immersed in my studies. Even when the other aspiring Valkyries were chatting enthusiastically with the handsome heroic spirits who had transformed into Valhalla warriors, I was always focused on advancing, sitting at my desk and burying myself in books,” Rossweisse reminisced, a faint sense of melancholy crossing her face.

“Because of that, I finally became a formal Valkyrie. But looking back now, perhaps I should have taken some time to enjoy myself back then,” she added, reflecting on her past.

Seeing Rossweisse’s wistful expression, Tenraku couldn’t help but chuckle. “While others regret not studying and having fun, you regret not playing enough and focusing too much on studying. Quite the opposite, isn’t it?”

“In fact, I think it’s not a bad thing at all. If Rossweisse had spent her time flirting with those handsome heroic spirits back then, maybe we wouldn’t have the chance to go on this date and chat like this now,” Tenraku said sincerely, while Rossweisse rolled her eyes at his bold remarks. Though initially embarrassed, she had become immune to Tenraku’s occasional bold statements.

“Furthermore, it’s because of Rossweisse’s hard work all this time that she was able to become a formal Valkyrie at such a young age and become a guard for Lord Odin. That should be a great honor among Valkyries, shouldn’t it?” Tenraku added, trying to cheer her up.

But Rossweisse’s face darkened. “But that old geezer fired me!”

Seeing the sudden outpouring of resentment from Rossweisse, Tenraku couldn’t help but feel awkward. Women really are creatures who hold grudges, he thought. He hadn’t expected her to still harbor resentment over something that had happened so long ago.

Tenraku considered whether to tell Rossweisse the truth, that Odin actually admired and valued her very much, and that he only fired her because of the agreement he made with Tenraku. But he quickly dismissed the idea. This was something that should never be revealed to Rossweisse. Let Odin take the blame for it!

“Sorry, I got a little carried away just now,” Rossweisse said, her face slightly red as she realized how she must have appeared.

“No, no, it’s okay. Odin firing you was the biggest mistake of his life. Clearly, Rossweisse is such an outstanding Valkyrie. That old man with failing eyesight should be forever regretting it!” Tenraku said, silently apologizing to Odin in his heart before delivering another jab at him.

“I’m… I’m not as outstanding as you think…” Rossweisse said, her blush deepening. Then, she pulled out a small piece of embroidery from her cup, which bore some very intricate patterns.

“This is the tiny pattern passed down in my family for generations, a kind of family emblem. It’s inherited by the eldest son of each generation, engraved on the soul and body, and passed down to future generations,” Rossweisse explained.

“But I can’t inherit this tiny pattern…” She added sadly.
