APJ Chapter 864 Hero of the Seas, Palafin

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

For the Fish-Men race, which specializes in aquatic combat, Water-type Pokémon are a better match for them.

It was ineffective for Sasaki, who had already eaten a Devil Fruit and thus cannot swim. As for Jack, it’s simply a personal preference; he has an unusual fascination with elephants.

For Tiger, the chosen ability is a very special Water-type Pokémon—Palafin.

Palafin is a Dolphin Pokémon of the Water type, evolved from Finizen, and it is one of the rare Pokémon whose evolved and unevolved forms look almost identical.

Although it appears ordinary, Palafin is actually very special—it has an ability called Zero to Hero.

Palafin, like Shaymin, has two distinct forms. One is its normal, everyday form, called the Zero Form.

In its Zero Form, Palafin’s appearance and physical capabilities are almost indistinguishable from those of Finizen. Like a superhero wearing glasses blending into the crowd, no one can recognize them.

When its allies are in danger, Palafin awakens and enters its Hero Form.

The Hero Form of Palafin contains power from ancient times. Upon evolving from Finizen to Palafin, the most obvious change is the mastery over the power to control the ancient genes. After awakening, Palafin’s base stats skyrocket, making it strong enough to arm wrestle Slaking.

Whether in speed or strength, Palafin is one of the top Pokémon in the ocean.

The enormous Palafin can easily lift a cruise ship with one hand, and it does not lose out in terms of speed either.

As a dolphin-type Pokémon, Palafin naturally possesses the ability to use ultrasonic waves, allowing it to detect cries for help from companions over great distances. Afterward, it will sprint at full speed of 50 knots to rescue those who are drowning.

Without the side effects of Slaking’s ability and coupled with its inherently kind nature, Palafin is known as the Hero of the Seas.

However, almost no one has seen Palafin’s transformation process. In this regard, Palafin adheres to a tradition—it will never let outsiders see it transform.

In its everyday state, it is just an ordinary dolphin. After all, this immense power is not something that can be used at all times.

Palafin’s Hero Form might not be particularly handsome, but it is strong enough, giving it a unique beauty which comes from power. For Tiger, this transformation ability is also a special kind of “skin change” process.

It changed him from a red Fish-Man to one with Jinbe’s skin tone, making him look much more honest and amiable. During his first transformation, he was still in the Zero Form.

“The power of the ancient gene resides within your body. It represents the power of protection. Familiarize yourself with it, so you can better master this power and protect the people you want to protect.”

In the game, getting Palafin into Hero Form is simple—you just return it to its Poké Ball and send it out again. But here, it’s different. Since Palafin has been turned into an ability, entering Hero Form depends entirely on Tiger’s skill.

“Understood. I will not let this power go to waste. I will ensure that it demonstrates its full worth.”

After obtaining this power, Tiger didn’t stay on Onigashima. Instead, he bid farewell and returned to Fishman Island. He had been away for quite some time, and during his absence, the island’s affairs were mostly handled by Jinbe.

Although he wasn’t the king of Fishman Island, Tiger was the only one capable of speaking to others as an equal in terms of strength.

Neptune and Otohime could voice their opinions to the World Government, but it didn’t carry much actual weight.

The Ryugu Kingdom’s status was still quite low, and most people’s attitude toward the Fish-Men and Merfolk hadn’t changed at all.

…….

“Shayna, take that Poneglyph up there and let those people translate it. Let’s find out what it says.”

“Yes, I’ll handle it right away.”

When Arceus mentioned “up there,” he meant it literally—specifically the Sky Island floating above Onigashima.

While some scholars studying ancient creatures had started researching Pokémon—spending their time observing Pokémon lifestyle on farms or ranches and delving into their mysterious evolution—most people were still focused on history.

Currently, the Beasts Pirates possess a total of three Road Poneglyphs and information from five ordinary Poneglyphs. It can be said that among the existing forces, they are the force that knows the most history.

As the scholars of Ohara translated more and more, the Void Century became even more mysterious. Some Poneglyphs were completely unrelated, which gave them endless room for speculation.

Although the Beasts Pirates were collecting Poneglyphs, the Marines and World Government didn’t consider them a threat in this regard. From their perspective, the Beasts Pirates’ goals were entirely different from Ohara’s.

Since Roger’s time, countless pirates had tried to reach the final island. The World Government was, of course, aware that the Road Poneglyphs were essential for getting there.

As one of the top powers in the New World, it would’ve been more surprising if Kaido wasn’t seeking out those stones.

Besides, the World Government didn’t believe anyone outside could translate the Poneglyphs. As a result, they didn’t pay much attention to the matter and focused more of their energy on Queen.

The Artificial Devil Fruits created by Caesar became a hot commodity under Queen’s schemes. While Zoan-type users don’t perform as spectacularly as Paramecia-type or Logia-type users, they still provide a significant boost.

With the success stories out there, many forces developed a special interest in them.

To add some credibility, Doflamingo actually mixed some of the completed, refined products with Caesar’s semi-finished ones and sold them. The forces purchasing the fruits treated it like opening a blind box, getting completely hooked.

After all, it was just for ordinary subordinates. Spending money to enhance them wasn’t a loss. This gambler’s mentality led to the emergence of the so-called smiling “Failures” in many forces except for the Beasts Pirates.

For a time, both Caesar and Queen frequently appeared on the desks of the Intelligence Branch, prompting them to ponder a strange question: Why did all the MADS members, after leaving government control, seem like geniuses constantly creating bizarre things?

Thanks to these sales, Queen’s personal stash of funds became quite substantial, although most of the money was donated.

“You’re saying… all of this was donated by Sir Queen?”

“Yes, Sister. Sir Queen made quite a few sporadic donations.”

In the monastery, Misu looked at the ledger handed over by Lami, feeling a bit baffled about what was going on. The Arceus Cult’s funds were already abundant, and Queen had never made such donations before. This unusual behavior left Misu quite puzzled.

“Did he say anything else?”

“Uh… Uncle Queen said this was something he should do. He only kept a small amount for his hard work and snacks.”
