Clang! Clang!
A series of dull thuds echoed from the mine. Cavendish angrily swung the large hammer in his hand, venting his fury on the ores before him.
Ever since he had been reported, he felt the gazes of the people in the mine had turned strange, as if they wanted to take advantage of him.
In fact, that was exactly the case. Only newcomers had the courage to resist; those who had been mining here for a long time had already lost their will to fight back.
To them, Cavendish was like a sentence-reduction machine, and some even tried to bait him into violating rules.
As a result, Cavendish didn’t trust them at all; instead, he believed every one of them had ulterior motives.
The people here were all pirates, with extremely brutal methods. Cavendish didn’t want to be humiliated, so he could only vent his frustration over the injustice by mining.
Even so, he refused to yield verbally and constantly complained about the horrible environment, believing it was completely mismatched with someone as elegant as him.
In this situation, he eventually received an elegant crowbar.
“Th-this… is this made of pink diamond?!”
Looking at the pink “holy sword of physics” in his hand, Cavendish was utterly bewildered.
“Yes, children are always naive. They think you still have a ‘chance to reform,’ and hearing you constantly grumble about it, they prepared this for you.”
The economy of Wano Country is quite peculiar. The Beasts Pirates operated a world-class financial organization, thriving even in the Underworld, while also continuously subsidizing Wano Country’s internal development.
However, Wano Country’s economy wasn’t directly linked to the outside world, but rather circulated through the Beasts Pirates as a broker, which in a sense is similar to North Korea.
The prices and value of goods within the country were entirely determined by the Beasts Pirates. External market prices had no bearing here. Some items that were extraordinarily valuable outside, like wagyu beef or diamonds, were commonplace within Wano Country.
Due to Diancie’s ability to create diamonds, the Beasts Pirates have an infinite supply. Sometimes, a Rubick’s cube made of diamonds is even cheaper than a plastic one. Without jewelers hyping up diamonds, the circulating currencies remained traditional gold and silver, along with Arceus Cult’s vouchers.
These vouchers had replaced Berries and were now being implemented throughout Wano Country.
“I… I wasn’t talking about this kind of elegant thing!”
“Heh, what you get doesn’t depend on what you want but on what we want to give you. I’d advise you to think more about your future. If one day Boss Jack loses interest in you, it’ll be too late to pledge your loyalty.”
Babanuki didn’t understand why Jack was interested in Cavendish. What he didn’t know was that Cavendish, blinded by his own fame, did something even more reckless than Jack.
Babanuki knew Jack well. Although Jack seemed mature, he was the same age as Yamato. Babanuki could say he had watched Jack grow up.
Although there was now a significant gap in their status, this fact couldn’t be concealed. This kind of situation wasn’t unique. Among the current single-digit Numbers, more than half were from the new generation of the Beasts Pirates, while many of the original single-digit Numbers had witnessed this new generation grow up.
Jack had two primary obsessions: one was his desire for a male friend, and the other was to become stronger.
When he most needed a male friend, Page One appeared, and his strength steadily grew through constant battles. Recruiting Cavendish was a whim for Jack; he didn’t dedicate much focus to him.
After about a week of rest, Jack set sail again with his ship, causing trouble wherever he went, randomly selecting lucky spectators to showcase his fearless display of naval prowess.
Once Jack left, Cavendish seemed to be forgotten, and like everyone else, he endlessly cycled through the mining work.
It wasn’t until some time later, when Tesoro made one of his periodic returns to Onigashima, that Cavendish was remembered again.
…
Unlike typical pirates, Cavendish had his own group of obsessive fans. After his exile, a group of women from his country also formed a fleet, leaving their homeland to chase after their idol.
Because of his striking appearance, his wanted posters were often taken down and collected as soon as they were put up.
After his disappearance, there was even a brief uproar across the seas as they searched for Cavendish. Even Marine bases had people inquiring about his whereabouts.
Journalists couldn’t be everywhere, so Cavendish’s fans didn’t know that he had suffered misfortune in his challenge against Jack.
However, this didn’t last long. Most of these were casual fans, and after Cavendish disappeared for a while, their attention was drawn to others.
Tesoro’s return to Onigashima was just to do his routine report, but he happened to hear someone mention Cavendish’s name, which piqued his interest.
During the time Cavendish was gone, the newly debuted artists were members of the Beasts Fruits, but the results weren’t great.
Although they now had top-tier songstresses and actresses, aside from Tesoro himself, they lacked a male figurehead to lead the way.
Moreover, Tesoro himself wasn’t the idol type. He just happened to need someone with high enough charisma and looks, and if Cavendish made a comeback at this time, it would be a great opportunity for him.
After communicating with Jack and confirming that Jack no longer had much interest in Cavendish, Tesoro took action.
Snatching people away wasn’t ideal, even if they were all part of the Beasts Pirates, so it was better to give Jack a heads-up.
…
“Well, isn’t this Tesoro? What brings you to this dump?”
“I’m here to recruit someone. I heard that Cavendish has ended up in our hands.”
“Cavendish… Oh, that pretentious guy? Yeah, that’s true.”
Tesoro’s identity was quite unique, moreover he deliberately maintained good relationships within the Beasts Pirates. Most of his peers called him directly by name, and he also addressed those below the senior officer level in the same casual way.
“That guy is quite stubborn. He’s been mining here for almost a month now and hasn’t shown any signs of giving in.”
“No problem, no problem. You guys just haven’t used the right methods. For someone like him, you need a special approach. Leave it to me.”
Then, following Babanuki, Tesoro found Cavendish, who was busy working.
“Cavendish! Your opportunity has come again. You’d better take it this time.”
“Tch, here we go again. I’ve told you, I won’t join you bunch of savages.. Wait, you’re… Tesoro? So you really work with the Beasts Pirates.”
As a world-famous male star, Tesoro’s appearance was highly recognizable. Moreover, he was one of the people who had stolen some of Cavendish’s popularity, so Cavendish remembered him well.
“That’s right. You seem to be in good spirits, but this time it’s not just a normal recruitment. Jack has lost interest in you. Now the question is, do you have any plans to debut?”
“Debut?”
“That’s right. We can clean up your image and make you a household name, a superstar known worldwide.”
