APJ Chapter 850 Frustrated Cavendish

Copperajah’s G-Max Move, G-Max Steelsurge, in layman’s terms, is essentially a larger version of Spikes. It lays down even more steel spikes across the battlefield, inflicting higher damage on any newly entering opponents.

But this isn’t a game. G-Max Steelsurge has far more applications, with its most direct impact being altering the battlefield itself.

The steel spikes vary greatly in size, some reaching several meters tall while others are as small as swords. Moreover, all of them were within Jack’s control. Although this move consumes an immense amount of energy, it allows him to clear the area in one go, compensating for his slower attack speed and vulnerability to being kited by enemies.

At the same time, Jack plunged his trunk into the seawater nearby, drawing vast amounts of water into his body. He then expelled it with the force of Fish-Man Jujutsu, merging it with the steel created by G-Max Steelsurge, sending it surging toward Setsuna.

“Fish-Man Jujutsu: Deadly Sea!”

In that moment, Jack’s attack truly transformed into a “steel torrent.” Any ordinary person caught in this torrent would be pulverized instantly.

Facing Jack’s attack, Setsuna attacked back without holding back. She formed a special shield combining the power of lightning and Aura. Amplified by her Sulong form, Magnet Rise became more than just levitation; it evolved into a special skill that allowed her to fly at high speeds.

Jack’s attack was coming from all directions, yet Setsuna still found an opening. Despite a bloody wound appearing on her arm, she managed to close the distance between them. A unique javelin appeared in her hand.

Lightning, Aura, and Haki—multiple forces were compressed and fused together by her, ultimately forming the javelin in her hand. The reason she didn’t use a bow was that, in this state, there was no longer any need to rely on the power of a bow. Moreover, with Jack’s size, she could hardly miss even if she closed her eyes.

Relying on brute force, Setsuna hurled the javelin toward Jack’s eye—his most vulnerable spot.

Jack didn’t dodge. Instead, he swung both arms at Setsuna, intending to take her javelin head-on in exchange for defeating her. However, neither Jack’s fist nor Setsuna’s javelin hit their mark.

The surrounding space and time seemed to freeze. Both their attacks dissipated slowly into the air.

“The battle is over. It’s a draw.”

Promotion battles to challenge the Calamities differ greatly from ranking battles. At this level, it’s nearly impossible to hold back. To determine a winner, participants must aim for vital spots, otherwise, these battles could drag on for ten days or more without conclusion.

Given the immense value of such high-level combatants to any force, wasting them on internal conflicts is unacceptable. Thus, a referee is required.

In the current Beasts Pirates, aside from Arceus, only Kaido can reliably judge the outcome of a fight between the two and intervene in time.

On the days when Kaido is absent, only Arceus can take on the role of referee.

“Well done, Jack. Keep working hard for a while longer, and you should be able to achieve your goal.

Setsuna, the same goes for you. Once you master this power in your normal state, it will be even more perfect.”

After giving a brief critique, Arceus brought the battle to an end.

If those last two attacks had landed, both of them would have been severely injured. They both had already used the Protect move, and gambling on luck at this point would have been unwise.

Neither Setsuna nor Jack refuted Arceus’ judgment. The challenge came to a temporary end, though Jack didn’t give up. Not long after, he left Onigashima, continuing to refine his skills in battle, preparing himself for a new challenge.

Setsuna also returned to her duties on Zou Island, while Hitsugisukan took advantage of his vacation to relax in Wano Country. After working hard for most of his life, he finally had time to enjoy himself.

Meanwhile, Kaido’s extensive search yielded no results but caused significant trouble for the Marines.

They couldn’t figure out what Kaido was planning. To prevent being caught off guard if he were to do something terrible, they had no choice but to order Marine branches everywhere to remain on high alert and to keep an eye out for any information on Kaido.

Jack and Kaido’s actions frequently landed them in the newspapers, while entertainment news from Beasts Fruits often dominated the headlines. Under Tesoro’s management, Uta has become a world-class rising star with a large fan-following around the world.

For a time, it could be said that they were the center of attention, and it seemed impossible to discuss the news without mentioning the Beasts Pirates.

Even if they weren’t directly involved, their influence was always felt behind the scenes. Their every move had become intricately connected to the entire world.

Such matters would normally have little impact, at most eliciting a few sighs of admiration from others. However, there were some who have been grinding their teeth in anger over this.

Pirates who set sail all have their own goals—wealth, power, fame. Each pursues their goals in various ways.

In the backdrop of the Great Pirate Era, even the deadly dangers of the Grand Line couldn’t stop the steady flow of pirates reaching the Sabaody Archipelago. Among them, one would often emerge as a standout “leader.”

This “leader” doesn’t necessarily lead other crews. Instead, it refers to those with the highest bounties of their time. In the New World, pirates with bounties exceeding 100 million berries are common, but in the first half of the Grand Line, such individuals are rare.

Each pirate with a bounty over 100 million is given the title of Super Rookie, and among this year’s Super Rookies, the strongest is the captain of the Beautiful Pirates, Cavendish of the White Horse, with a bounty of 280 million berries.

Originally a prince of the Bourgeois Kingdom, Cavendish was exiled due to his extraordinarily handsome appearance. His looks caused the kingdom’s women to become infatuated with him, disrupting normal life to such an extent that he was banished for the “crime of being too popular.”

This might not have been a big deal, but Cavendish harbors a split personality. Unlike Cavendish, the other persona has an extreme penchant for slaughter. During his time in the Rommel kingdom, Cavendish’s inner persona committed numerous crimes, earning him the name “Kamaitachi of Rommel.”

This incident forced him into becoming a pirate, but he found himself thoroughly enjoying the fame it brought him. Thus began his journey as a pirate.

The flamboyant Super Rookie, the Pirate Prince, the White Horse, and the Kamaitachi of Rommel—he has accumulated many titles over time. However, recently, he noticed a change in the media’s attention.

In the first half of the Grand Line, Cavendish frequently saw his name making headlines. But now, it’s all about the Beasts Pirates. If it’s not Kaido, it’s Jack.

This became especially true after Tesoro’s business plans took off. With limited space in the newspapers, when Uta, Tesoro, and others dominate the entertainment sections, and the pirate bounty updates focus on the active Emperors of the Sea, Cavendish naturally lost his spotlight.

This caused him, who had always been the center of attention, to feel deeply frustrated and he was eager to reclaim his lost popularity.
