The plate was something she and Isuka had found. After staking it out for so long, there was no way she’d let her efforts go to waste. The shopping card and matters regarding Kikunojo were just bonuses; strength was the core issue.
The gem was the source of her power, similar to Dynamax Energy or Mega Energy. It was one of the key ways to enhance Pokémon ability.
This wasn’t the Pokémon world, and Pokémon Ability Users didn’t need to rely on Trainers. For someone like Shayna, whose power had already merged into her bloodline, she could perform Mega Evolution through sheer willpower alone.
On the other hand, Gyarados Queen Neerus was different in some ways. Her power hadn’t fully integrated into her body but resided in the Mega Stone embedded in her crown.
It all depends on talent. Only those with enough talent could fully absorb that power. For those less gifted, external objects were still needed, and Delia was in such a state.
A yellow crystal hung on the necklace around her chest, marked with a lightning symbol.
This item is known as a Z-Crystal, and it too stored powerful energy. It contains immense power within. By harnessing the energy from the Z-Crystal, users can unleash extremely powerful Z-moves.
While they might lose some secondary effects, like restricting the opponent’s speed, Z-Moves are significantly more powerful than ordinary moves. With sheer power, they can destroy any strategy—if the power is high enough, sometimes brute strength alone is enough to crush the opponent.
There are two types of Z-Moves. The first type is a common Z-Move based on a specific type, which can be learned by any Pokémon with the appropriate type. The second type is an exclusive Z-Move of certain Pokémon, and Delia’s Z-Move falls into the former category.
Her move was much more powerful than a Pokémon’s standard moves, but it placed a heavy burden on the user, meaning it could only be used once in a short period of time.
“To be honest, you’re really tough. After taking so many hits, you’re still standing. Fish-Men’s physique is no joke,”
In her battle with Sasaki, Delia found herself in a situation similar to Elizabeth’s. However, Sasaki’s defense wasn’t as strong, so while the injuries weren’t obvious, it still had a significant effect.
But this way of fighting would drag the fight out for too long. She wanted to switch to a quicker approach.
“What are you doing?”
Sasaki had already witnessed many strange things in this battle, and Delia’s current movements only added to his confusion. He saw her position her left hand above and her right hand below, each pointing diagonally toward the sky and the ground, respectively.
Her body was trembling slightly. Normally, humans would refer to such actions as dancing, but in this situation… it seemed quite fitting.
For regular members, Swords Dance is one of the most commonly used buff moves. It’s not uncommon for ordinary members to learn Swords Dance, and those who have mastered it could even form a small dance troupe.
If it were any other faction, dancing on the battlefield might simply be a psychological attack, a tactic to draw attention. However, within the Beasts Pirates, it signifies a surge in strength.
Watching Delia begin her dance, Sasaki didn’t just stand there foolishly. Instead, he launched his own attack. The power of Take Down merged into his body, and Bastiodon charged towards Delia like a locomotive.
“You’re really impatient. Honestly, I didn’t want to use this move either. The preparation method is quite embarrassing.”
Z-Moves might consume a lot of energy, but their power more than makes up for it. The only downside was the awkward dance required before releasing the move.
The specific pose was the way to channel the Z-Crystal’s power. Delia’s movements were for the Electric-type Z-Move, so the level of embarrassment was relatively low.
As her movements came to an end, a powerful surge of lightning erupted from the necklace. Luxray’s body was already enveloped in electrical currents. Soon, a massive surge of lightning began to converge rapidly toward her right arm.
Crackle… crackle…
The crackling of the lightning sounded like a flock of frenzied birds, and the dazzling flashes made it hard for Sasaki to keep his eyes open. Yet, he didn’t stop. Instead, he charged straight at the brightest point, using the light source as his target.
Lacking long-range attack options, Sasaki’s goal was to interrupt Delia’s charging before she could unleash her attack. But no matter how fast he moved, it was nothing compared to the gathered lightning.
“Gigavolt Havoc!”
As the lightning finally converged onto her right fist, amidst the deafening roar, a beam formed of lightning shot out from Delia’s right arm, resembling a Flash Cannon. The thunderous beam of light erupted with overwhelming force, causing the ground beneath to crack instantly under the high-voltage lightning, sending massive chunks of dirt and stone flying into the air.
Gigavolt Havoc, imbued with all of Delia’s lightning, had been unleashed. Bastiodon’s face bone began to glow with a metallic sheen as Sasaki strengthened his defense during the Take Down maneuver.
There was no time to dodge now. Evading at this point would only mean taking a hit for nothing. Sasaki decided to go all in, to make a final stand and see what was stronger: his shield or Delia’s attack.
Boom!
With Sasaki as the center, the explosion of lightning sent smoke billowing into the sky. The usual “no injuries, only smoke” rule didn’t apply here. When the smoke cleared, Sasaki’s once-massive body lay collapsed on the ground.
Different power-boosting methods had their pros and cons. In terms of raw, single-target power, Z-Moves, which almost drained all the user’s stamina, were far more powerful than Mega Evolution or Dynamax, especially against heavy enemies.
“Done.”
Delia shook her wrist to ease the muscle soreness. The power of a Z-Move wasn’t fixed; its true essence was in transforming an ordinary move of the same type into a much stronger one using the Z-Crystal.
In her earlier attempts, Delia had only used weaker moves, but in this battle, she unleashed her most powerful attack.
…
A little while later, in the medical center, some things changed. The ranking battles weren’t for unlimited duration, and now they were nearing the end. Many people who had secured their positions were waiting here.
It even had the feel of a semi-retirement gathering of old-officers.
“Elizabeth, are you really not going to challenge again? No. 16 is pretty low.”
“I don’t care. Olga doesn’t mind either. Besides, don’t you think their terrifying face would be quite interesting when someone discovers that No. 16 is stronger than No. 11?”
“You’ve really picked up a lot of Olga’s dark humor. But it seems like there aren’t many people left ahead…If you don’t count Setsuna and Mandrell, it looks like a complete overhaul. I doubt Scotch will be able to win either.”
“Yeah, although Pay-tan is young, he counters him too well.”
They were casually discussing the results when Delia’s arrival interrupted the conversation.
“Oh, Delia! As one of the few veterans still climbing the ranks, shouldn’t you treat us to something?”
Amalee hooked an arm around Delia’s shoulder, clearly eager to mooch off her. But she forgot one crucial detail.
“Treat you all? No problem. I’ll cover the expenses today. But which one of you is going to lend me some money first?”
