The desert kingdom of Alabasta has given rise to many unique creatures, which is one of the wonders of this sea. As a result, the Pokémon that have spread to the outside world are often considered natural wonders.
In this sea, there haven’t been any widely spread examples of artificial creatures yet. One such unique creature found only in Alabasta is the Kung-fu Dugong.
These creatures resemble a dugong but have a unique shell-like structure similar to a turtle. It is an amphibious species that inhabits the desert rivers and surrounding sea of Alabasta.
Despite their cute appearance, they can be quite troublesome. Kung-fu Dugongs are martial arts enthusiasts and tend to fight anyone passing through their territory.
Though they seem like ordinary animals, they possess combat strength greater than the average person. Those without training aren’t really their match, and even if someone defeats them, they will seek to become disciples with tears in their eyes.
Most of the time, good people outnumber bad ones, and those who can defeat the Dugongs are often reluctant to harm these little guys. The locals in Alabasta usually choose to avoid them.
However, Robin, without hiring a local guide, ventured into their territory with just a camel and Lizzi, following the map on her own.
Lizzi’s combat ability wasn’t quite on par with its mother’s, but dealing with these Kung-fu Dugongs is still quite easy. It quickly took them down with continuous Water Gun, showing them the crushing advantage of ranged attacks over unarmed combat.
The Kung-fu Dugongs never expected someone to abandon the martial arts code and use Water Gun in combat. Whether it was long-range or close combat, they had no way to deal with the tall, thin figure.
“Inte~leon…”
At this moment, Robin had already put away her sketchbook. Flower-Flower Fruit made it convenient for her to quickly sketch and record things she wants. Her book contained records of the various ruins and magical creatures she had encountered on the sea.
These interesting creatures were something Onigashima had taken a slight interest in during the search for plates and Devil Fruits.
“Inte~leon~”
As Lizzi looked at the Kung-fu Dugongs gathered around it, its mouth twitched a bit before it shot a small water arrow at a nearby rock.
Inteleon’s usual combat style involves firing Water Gun from its fingertips, but that doesn’t mean it can only do so from its fingers. This is one of the differences brought by evolution.
Inteleon is more flexible in this regard. Blastoise, on the other hand, can no longer shoot water from its mouth after evolving, due to the special structure of its cannons.
The water arrow left a hole in the rock, drawing admiring gazes from the Kung-fu Dugongs.
“Inte~leon [When you can do this with water, I’ll come back and teach you more.]”
The Kung-fu Dugongs are quick learners, and their unique body structure allows them to perform feats most people can’t. Some exceptional ones can even learn Haki. But Water Gun, Kung-fu Dugongs aren’t Pokémon; they don’t have special organs to store or shoot water.
Lizzi was merely finding an excuse to shake them off, but these naïve dugong truly believed it. From that moment on, Alabasta gained a group of Kung-fu Dugongs who spent their days spitting water at rocks.
Watching these innocent creatures, Lizzi felt a slight pang of guilt.
Nevertheless, Lizzi followed Robin as they left the area, heading toward Alabasta’s capital, Alubarna.
Little did Lizzi know that, after a long period of practice and perseverance, some of the Kung-fu Dugongs indeed developed something. Because of Lizzi’s actions, some of the Dugongs seemed to have created a new combat style.
………..
Some time later, Nico Robin arrived in Alubarna and submitted her resume to the kingdom. She’s no longer a wanted criminal; with the help of the Beasts Fruits, she now has a legitimate ID recognized by the World Government.
Setting aside her shadowy past, her resume was quite impressive. Having worked in numerous world-class large corporations, she’s undoubtedly a successful person—far more experienced and knowledgeable than her competitors.
“Your Majesty, she is the most suitable candidate. If you are considering male candidates, these are good options. But as for female candidates… no one can compare to her,” the long curly-haired Igaram was recommending suitable candidates to Cobra.
“Twenty-three years old… that’s quite young, and her resume is very rich.”
Nico Robin’s resume explained her reason for being here: too much work pressure and some mistakes made her unsuitable for her previous job. She wanted to experience different sights on the sea and even included details of her travel experiences.
The information about the sea, in general, is rather scarce. The islands and descriptions in her resume were not something that could be made up by someone who hadn’t been there.
As for the Beasts Fruits part of her resume, he didn’t pay much attention to it. The company is now massive, with branches all over the world. Most of its employees are regular staff, and only the core members are members of the Beasts Pirates.
As a king of an affiliated nation, Cobra was well aware of these details.
“Princess Vivi is only 11 years old. If it’s a woman, they might get along better.”
“Let’s recruit all of them. Let each try their hand at the position,” Cobra decided, not choosing just one candidate but instead hiring all the shortlisted ones. After all, as the royal family of Alabasta, they can afford to hire multiple tutors.
As time passed, Robin gradually stood out among the group of tutors. Although she was only responsible for economics, it didn’t mean she wasn’t skilled in other areas. After all, an 11-year-old was still a child, even if Vivi was more mature.
She believed she had some expertise in dealing with children. With stories of other islands, she quickly earned Vivi’s admiration.
As for Lizzi, it was merely regarded as a special bodyguard. Alabasta also had Zoan Users, so it seemed reasonable for a “weak woman” traveling all over the seas to have a bodyguard.
Since their relationship had grown close, Robin even accompanied Vivi when she followed Cobra to the port city of Nanohana, where she encountered a person mentioned prominently in Doflamingo’s intelligence—Crocodile.
At this moment, Crocodile had just defeated a group of pirates who had invaded the port, silently retreating amid the townspeople’s cheers of “hero.”
“There’s definitely a secret here…”
Robin didn’t believe that a Shichibukai would be content to play the good guy here. Although her own strength wasn’t top-tier, living with the Beasts Pirates for so long had honed her perception.
A Logia User wouldn’t need to go through so much trouble to deal with ordinary pirates; he was just showing off to boost his image in the eyes of the public.
But what exactly was his goal? Robin couldn’t figure that out yet…
