The Lineage Factor is a truly mysterious creation; it is essentially an analysis of Devil Fruit abilities. Due to the unique nature of Zoan-types, they became the easiest to decipher. By analyzing Kaido’s Lineage Factor, Vegapunk managed to replicate an imperfect Devil Fruit ability.
However, this imperfection is only relative to Kaido himself. The only significant difference between this fruit and the original is its color; beyond that, there is no other difference.
Of course, there was another reason for Vegapunk’s refusal—he did not want to mass-produce Devil Fruits for the World Government. If they discovered it was a perfect ability, they would undoubtedly demand mass production.
He also made some progress with the Paramecia-type. By obtaining the Lineage Factor of a Paramecia User and fusing it with a special blood, which he termed “Green Blood,” he could recreate the user’s fruit ability. However, mass production of these fruits remained a challenge.
As for the Logia-type fruits, the research was incredibly difficult, with little progress made.
“How did this guy find a suitable host…?”
He paid no mind to CP0’s taunting words but became curious about Queen. Controlling ordinary sea beasts wasn’t difficult, but giant beasts with elemental powers was a different matter.
Devil Fruits aren’t meant to be used this way. Few would ever think of feeding a powerful Logia-type fruit to a pet. Moreover, the Lineage Factor isn’t that easy to handle. The Green Blood he created hadn’t yet been tested in combat because normal creatures couldn’t handle this kind of power.
This was even truer for Mythical Zoans. Mythical Zoan fruits aren’t exactly common; apart from the Beasts Pirates, it’s incredibly rare for any force on the seas to have a Mythical Zoan ability—there aren’t even enough for people, let alone animals.
The horse from Blackbeard Pirates… you could call it being willful. After all, Blackbeard could plunder others’ abilities, making it easier to acquire specific ones.
Unless a breakthrough is made, rare abilities will always be allocated to people rather than beasts.
From the intelligence he had received, it seemed Queen had also undergone some remarkable modifications. Originally, Queen only had the ability of the Brachiosaurus fruit, but according to the latest reports, he had gained the ability to control plants.
If that was merely Queen’s research outcome, the potential applications were vast.
“Alright, you should leave now. I’ll inform you if there is any result from the research.”
New ideas flashed through Vegapunk’s mind, and with the new knowledge at hand, he was eager to begin his next research project. CP0 agents didn’t delay and quickly left Punk Hazard. Meanwhile, another CP0 team received new orders.
In the New World, the CP0 team responsible for Beasts Pirates affairs also received new orders. Over the past few years, they had been specifically in charge of the matters of Beasts Pirates, which was considerably safer compared to other CP0 assignments.
But today, they were given a rather dangerous mission.
“At any cost? Are they serious?”
“Yes, but it’s just an opportunity, not an order. Given that guy’s reclusive nature, there might not even be a chance to execute it.”
“Why would the higher-ups issue such an order? His bounty states he must be captured alive…”
“The primary objective is still to capture him alive, but now there’s a new alternative option.”
The World Government values loyalty above all when recruiting CP0. Without enough loyalty, even the strongest individuals wouldn’t be allowed into CP0. Their loyalty enables them to disregard their own lives.
For example, risking their lives to interfere in Kaido’s battles or take photos on Onigashima. When the World Government issues an “at any cost” order, it means their lives are part of the cost.
The World Government’s order to them was simple: if possible, bring Queen back, otherwise if the opportunity arises, killing him is also an option.
It’s true that they want him, but if they had to, destroying him was not out of the question.
According to the Pirate Theory of Relativity, the World Government inherently holds an absolute advantage. Even if they do not make progress themselves, as long as they can block the opportunities of their enemies to make progress, they can continue to maintain their advantage.
In Wano Country, Ringo region, within another one of Queen’s laboratories, the braid on the back of his head suddenly spread out, forming a small umbrella-shaped shield.
The Water Gun shot by Omastar was completely blocked, and then the shield was further reinforced with Haki, stopping the incoming Spike Cannon as well.
“Muhahaha! You’re out of moves now, aren’t you? This is a defense mechanism I’ve specially researched! Surprised?”
After successfully blocking Omastar’s attacks, a smug grin reappeared on Queen’s face. But in the next moment, his overconfidence led to him being splattered with a face full of mud.
“Damn it… So, what’s the news this time?”
“Heh, good news. They haven’t increased your bounty this time.”
“Hmm??”
Queen was slightly surprised that the bounty hadn’t changed. He had gotten used to the bizarre situation where, despite being in Wano Country, his bounty would mysteriously skyrocket. Sometimes, not getting an increase in bounty felt almost abnormal.
“Why?”
“Don’t know. It seems to be a decision from their Intelligence Branch, but there’s also some bad news.”
“Bad news? How bad could it be? My bounty didn’t even go up, so it looks like my bad luck is over.”
“They said that in special circumstances, they could kill you at any cost. Good luck.”
Omastar slowly spoke the last sentence before going into a dormant state, completely ignoring that Queen’s cigar had fallen out of his mouth in shock.
In the past, at least there was no risk to his life. But now, he seemed to be facing something far more terrifying.
In his eyes, CP0 are all lunatics. They are top-level assassins, who have been brainwashed by the World Government and willing to die for it. If they really set their sights on him, he’d probably be in for a rough time.
“No, I need to think of a way to handle this…..This self-defense device needs to be reinforced. It’s not enough just to rely on Omastar; I need to expand the detection range…”
While researching the toy combat suit for Yamato, he had rummaged through the library of Ohara for technical data and had accidentally stumbled upon this technology, which he then applied to himself.
Now it seemed it needed further improvement. Thinking about it, Queen decided he wouldn’t leave Wano Country anytime soon. Anyway, everything he needed was here, so there was no point in going out to seek trouble.
After some thought, Queen grabbed a piece of paper and started writing a report.
[Recommend strengthening the identity registration of Wano Country residents and improving the ID card system…]
This system had already been implemented within the Beasts Pirates, but Queen felt it necessary to expand its scope. Doing so would greatly reduce the likelihood of these agents infiltrating.
They couldn’t launch a direct assault on Onigashima—that’s not CP0’s style. So he needed to reduce the chances of an assassination attempt…
