APJ Chapter 686 Queen saves himself through pinnacle of science

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

After being sent flying for who knows how many times, Queen’s patience finally reached its limit.

“Boss Kaido, are we done yet?”

“No, something still feels off. It’s always missing just a little bit. Get up, Queen, let’s go again.”

A father’s love is as overwhelming as a mountain collapsing or the earth splitting, and a filial son is like a torrential downpour. Within the family, this is considered the Gentle Mode—like how Garp constantly punches Luffy, calling it the “Fist of Love.” But when it comes to outsiders, he wouldn’t describe it that way; instead, he would say that he has crushed eight mountains.

And for some reason, this mode seems to be exclusively for Yamato. When fighting others, Kaido always feels like something is missing. Blissey’s egg is one factor, but Kaido still hasn’t found that key element.

To quickly master his new fighting style, he began to train his subordinates, creating a hellish win-win situation.

“…Boss Kaido, don’t you want to switch to another practice partner? How about King over there?”

Pointing at King, who was floating in mid-air with his arms crossed, Queen tried to redirect the attention, but he failed.

“No need. You can take more hits and have better recovery. You’re still far from reaching your limits. I’ll give you 10 seconds; if you’re not ready to defend by then, I’ll attack directly!”

King was also one of his practice targets. A mode shouldn’t be designed for just one opponent; he couldn’t keep finding a new mode for every opponent.

For now, Kaido felt it was more suitable to train with Queen first before switching to another target.

Under Kaido’s coercion, Queen had no choice but to get back up and prepare for the new crisis. The outcome was clear: with Kaido deliberately giving him an opening and unleashing a sea of attacks, Queen was honorably defeated.

“That’s strange…it’s still missing something…”

“Boss Kaido, I’ve watched the previous recordings from Onigashima. It seems like you first entered the Drunken Dragon Bagua state before that mode appeared.

You’re trying to skip that step without drinking now, isn’t that a bit too advanced?”

King had been observing the entire fight from above with a god’s-eye view. Though his strength couldn’t compare to Kaido’s, he has keen eyes.

Sometimes, an observer with a god’s-eye view can better see the problem.

“I don’t really want to rely on external forces. Let’s try again.”

Kaido indeed didn’t want to rely on external forces. The Drunken Dragon Bagua required drinking to find that tipsy feeling, which wasn’t a problem on the battlefield. Initially, it was to boost his courage, but later it became a habit.

Now, for him, there was no need for courage.

Moreover, there was another issue: after drinking, he would smash the gourd, which he saw as a cool move, but eating an egg didn’t have the same effect.

He couldn’t just peel a boiled egg and eat it in front of everyone to enter the mode, could he? Eating it with the shell on would be even more ridiculous.

So, he must break through himself and find a more stable method.

“Boss Kaido, I think it’s okay to take it step by step. Let’s start with Drunken Dragon Bagua.”

As King said this, he handed Kaido his wine gourd. Seeing this, Queen’s sunglasses almost shattered from his glare. That sly devil King was up to no good—Queen was certain that King had ulterior motives when he incited Kaido to practice Drunken Dragon Bagua.

He wasn’t wrong—training this way would definitely be beneficial. But Kaido wanted to skip this process, or else he would have started drinking already.

And here’s the problem: Kaido gets carried away after just a little drink. If he enters Drunken Dragon Bagua state, who knows how badly he will get beaten?

“Boss Kaido! I think this way of training is just fine! Don’t listen to the nonsense of that torture-loving pe*vert!”

“Why? Does a trash like you want to hold Boss Kaido back at a time like this?”

“Who are you calling trash? Say that again, I dare you!”

“Whoever can’t beat me is the trash. Want to try again?”

King and Queen are always like this—constantly bickering and trying to one-up each other unless there’s an external threat. Of course, most of the time, it’s King who’s causing trouble for Queen, and there’s not much Queen can do about it.

“…Since you’re so eager, then come!”

They had just fought not long ago, and Queen was left in despair by the Lunarian’s incredible stamina. In the end, he still lost. Kaido’s training sessions are brutal—they don’t take your life, but they drain your stamina. Realizing he couldn’t win in this state, Queen decided to change his approach.

His thinking wasn’t flawed, but he forgot one crucial detail.

“I don’t mind, but Boss Kaido personally chose you.”

“…”

Even through the mask, Queen could feel the mocking smile beneath King’s mask. Kaido had already made his decision clear through his actions.

Crash!

The sound of pottery shattering echoed in Queen’s ears, making it clear what was coming.

“Queen, you still have the energy to argue, so it looks like you’ve recovered well. Keep it up! I think your movements are even slower than before! Thunder… Bagua!”

In Drunken Dragon Bagua state, Kaido, slightly restrained, swung the Thunder Bagua once again…

After a slightly painful battle, both Queen and King collapsed to the ground. Once Queen was exhausted, King joined as a practice target. Neither Tropius’s dirty tactics nor the Lunarians incredible stamina could defeat Kaido in the end.

The boar cart carried the two of them back to their resting place in the Flower Capital, while Kaido flew back to Onigashima to continue his life of hangovers. If it wasn’t that he was trying to learn this mode from someone other than Yamato, he would have dragged Yamato to train.

Olga wasn’t the type for brute-force battles, so Kaido planned to try it on Shayna and Zeraora next.

These days continued, and through various small tricks, Queen finally convinced Blissey to give him one of its eggs.

“Hmph, I’ll see for myself what’s so special about this egg.”

At heart, Queen was still a scholar. When it came to research, he was the top dog in the Beasts Pirates. He even brought in Acier, determined to uncover the egg’s secrets.

But in the end, the result was disappointing. It was just a highly nutritious egg. Beyond that, they found nothing special.

“Sir Queen, why don’t we… ask the folks on the small Sky Island? Some of them have recently switched careers to become Pokémon scholars. They should have more research on this stuff.”

“Pokémon… you’ve reminded me. Why bother asking those guys when I can go straight to Lord Arceus for information?”

The paleontologists on Sky Island had changed careers out of interest, and through their research, they had summarized some living habits of Pokémon. But when it came to Pokémon, Arceus was the one who understood them best.

To escape Kaido’s torment as soon as possible, Queen immediately left his lab. Once he masters that, Kaido should lose interest in this thing. As for who would be tormented next, as long as it wasn’t him, he didn’t care.
