APJ Chapter 655 He is just an apprentice, what can he do?

Golden Lion was a renowned pirate on the sea back in the day, belonging to the same era as Whitebeard and Roger, and even leading a generation of monsters.

If it weren’t for his bad luck, the result of the Edd War naval battle would have changed the balance of the entire world.

His ambition wasn’t just to be the Pirate King; he wanted the entire world, much like his former captain, Rocks. They both had ambitions of becoming the king of the world.

However, after the Edd War naval battle, Golden Lion first lost a significant portion of his forces. Then, due to Roger’s surrender, he stormed into the Marine headquarters alone and was captured and imprisoned. Although he dared to break out of prison by cutting off his own legs, Golden Lion’s thinking seemed to have changed afterward.

Crocodile, defeated by Whitebeard, started searching for Pluton, hoping to harness the power of an ancient weapon. Moria, defeated by Kaido, started seeking an undead zombie army after all his companions were killed.

After experiencing setbacks, some people forgot that their own strength was of crucial importance and began to seek external power.

Golden Lion was somewhat similar but not entirely. He needed more troops to prove to the World Government that he had the power to take revenge. Instead of focusing on humans, he set his sights on beasts.

In fact, he had a simpler way: using his ability to float various islands above critical locations.

This way, if he died or fainted, the islands would fall, causing irreversible damage to the countries below.

Luckily, he didn’t do that. Such actions would seriously disrupt the balance maintained by the World Government. If his purpose for doing that was exposed, the World Government would stop at nothing to exterminate him.

Even if it meant great casualties after his death, the World Government wouldn’t hesitate. They wouldn’t care about the lives of people from several countries.

Even if he suspended an island over Mariejois, the World Government had ways to deal with it.

They were able to stand firm for eight hundred years by relying on military force. During this process, countless islands were evaporated using special means.

This is why the Beasts Pirates are only expanding. Facing unknown powers, finding all the plates is the most reliable method. They have no shortage of time; spending a few more years to look for the lost plates will ensure no possible setbacks and prevent large-scale casualties.

Pfft, pfff.

Clank, clank.

Two strange sounds of footsteps were heard one after another. The weird sounds were made by Golden Lion’s two swords made into fake legs and Indigo’s strange farting shoes. There weren’t many people on this island, only the die-hard followers Indigo brought with him back then, the last of the Golden Lion’s crew.

“Admiral, IQ works very well on these creatures. The power they erupt with after going berserk is terrifying, yet they retain a certain amount of intelligence. But there is an unusual situation, you’ll understand when you see for yourself.”

Indigo led the Golden Lion to the laboratory on the island. As the door opened, a loud noise erupted from inside the room.

“What’s going on? Isn’t this guy afraid of the IQ plant?”

The island had many giant beasts they modified using IQ. Even Golden Lion couldn’t control these beasts; he could only restrict their living areas using the fearsome aura of the IQ plant.

These beasts were originally ordinary animals on the island.

Fourteen years ago, the people, animals, and plants on this island lived in harmony until Golden Lion discovered it and moved the island using his Devil Fruit ability, changing everything.

The plants were put under research by Indigo, the animals were modified, and the original residents became the ones supplying day-to-day necessities to his remaining troops.

This time, however, Indigo used a cage to restrain the creature instead of using the IQ plant.

Facing Golden Lion’s question, Indigo didn’t answer. Instead, he used his hands and legs to make strange gestures. Like doing yoga, he contorted his body into various odd shapes.

“Oh, I see. I get it.”

“How did you understand that?!”

Seeing the Golden Lion comprehend his gesture, Indigo was the one who couldn’t understand.

“It was just that obvious. This guy isn’t afraid of IQ, right?”

This was the daily interaction between the Golden Lion and Indigo. At this moment, Indigo was the most trusted subordinate of the Golden Lion, and he could understand him even if his behavior was strange.

Indigo reached out and removed the black cloth covering the cage, revealing a slightly aggressive Corviknight.

“This crow’s entire body is covered in steel. It only calms down when its stamina is almost exhausted, and this iron cage can barely contain it. Moreover, it can fly, so just using IQ is useless.”

“Isn’t this similar to those beasts? It’s just more aggressive.”

“No, Admiral, look at this.”

Saying that, Indigo took out a piece of paper with a golden pattern. When this paper appeared in front of Corviknight, its aggressiveness suddenly subsided.

“Hmm?”

“It’s this pattern. I discovered by chance that even if it goes berserk, it won’t attack someone with this pattern.”

Indigo demonstrated by sticking the paper to his chest and boldly reaching into the cage to touch the berserk Corviknight’s body. Although Corviknight growled in a low voice, it restrained itself from attacking Indigo.

Indigo had already tested this with many people to ensure that it was safe. Plus, Golden Lion was right behind him, so he dared to be this bold.

“So, this pattern can control it?”

“No, in its berserk state, it seems unable to understand commands, and since we only have one of them, we can’t continue experimenting. Our current conclusion is that this pattern can make it cease attacking, but its tolerance limit is still unknown.”

Indigo handed the paper to the Golden Lion. As soon as he lost the paper, Corviknight’s beak jabbed through the cage, aiming at Indigo.

“Interesting. This pattern… Is it something new that brat Kaido came up with?”

The pattern wasn’t Kaido’s pirate flag but Arceus’s Thousand Arms insignia. IQ caused Corviknight to go berserk, making all living things its target. However, its innate instincts still made it obey the rules set by its creator.

Yet, its chaotic mind only remembered the Thousand Arms insignia, losing the ability to distinguish other details.

“So, Indigo, this bird is currently the most suitable creature, right?”

“Currently, yes, but Admiral, these crows seem to be under the control of the Beasts Pirates.”

“Beasts Pirates? He is nothing but an apprentice. When I started out as a pirate, he was just a brat from nowhere.”

The Golden Lion had no fear of Kaido. Over the years, he hadn’t completely lost contact with the outside world, but the information he could receive was very limited…
