Before long Yamato was following a few pink little creatures out of Onigashima, heading towards Udon. This is the industrial zone of Wano Country, home to the largest weapons factory.
Weapons mixed with Seastone and Drunken Iron Ore are sold worldwide and are the most popular in the Underworld. The second most popular weapons are the standard weapons of Marines. Both are the most expensive but also the highest quality weapons.
In this regard, no one acts stingy. Excellent weapons means a higher chance of survival. Relying solely on physical strength is something only a few can do; most people only have ordinary bodies, so having excellent weapons is essential.
Additionally, the factory also mass-produces the Beasts Pirates’ standard weapons and officers’ equipment. Some special arrowheads needed by Setsuna and the weapons of several senior officers and vice-captains also come from here.
The craftsmen of Wano Country have a certain advantage in this aspect. The weapons they forge are mostly of superior quality and their quality is guaranteed to a certain extent.
According to local customs in Wano Country, these craftsmen engrave their names or marks on the weapons to indicate the maker. When the user becomes famous with the weapon, their name will also spread, and this custom also allows for better accountability.
Damage to a weapon due to a disparity in strength is forgivable, but accidents caused by quality issues are not.
More weapons with complex materials are made in Queen’s laboratory, but Udon has the largest forging space in Wano Country, making it more suitable for crafting cold weapons.
“Don’t you find it heavy? How about I help you carry it?”
Yamato asked, looking at the few Pokémon carrying hammers. These Pokémon were Tinkaton, entirely pink with pinkish-white hair, looking very much like little human girls.
Their average height was 0.7 meters, but each Tinkaton was carrying a huge hammer on its shoulder, at least twice the size of their bodies. Compared to the hammer in their hands, they looked quite small.
The hammer seems more like their body than their actual bodies.
“Huh?”
The leading Tinkaton waved towards Yamato and then playfully twirled it’s hammer with one hand, indicating that Yamato didn’t need to worry.
Despite their delicate appearance, they are a dual Fairy + Steel type, with good resistance to attacks. Additionally, the hammer is the life tool of the Tinkaton race
As Tinkatink, they collect metal scraps from their surroundings to make their hammers. This is a process of continuous effort. They keep making new hammers until they create one they are satisfied with. During this process, Tinkatink accumulates rich forging experience.
Even after completing a hammer, their forging life doesn’t stop. The hammer is their weapon for protection, but Tinkatink’s strength isn’t enough to protect themselves, so other Pokémon often snatch away their hammers.
To other Pokémon, the hammer made from various kinds of metal scraps, especially those that eat metals, is a rare delicacy.
If they aren’t their match, they abandon the hammer like a lizard’s tail and flee. This continues until they evolve.
When Tinkatink evolves into Tinkatuff, their strength changes significantly, and they often clash with Bisharp because Bisharp’s sharp metal blades and sturdy armor are ideal materials for making new hammers.
Tinkatuff will attack groups of Bisharp, and to test the strength of their hammers, they engage in “internal fights,” which involve hitting their companions on the head to see which is tougher: the head or the hammer.
In this stage, they continue to gain forging experience, and their intelligence develops rapidly. By the time they become Tinkaton, they have completed their growth.
Tinkaton brings not only strength but also higher intelligence. Even Corviknight flying in the sky become their targets.
Although they can’t fly, they use their huge hammers as baseball bats to launch rocks at Corviknight to get their iron feathers.
The hammer is enormous, but for Tinkaton, it’s an extension of their body, and they don’t need external help.
To prove their strength to Yamato, Tinkaton displayed a fancy hammer throw, passing their hammers to each other.
….
Taking the Altaria flight, Yamato and the others quickly reached Udon. The first thing the Tinkaton did wasn’t forging but learning.
They were directly created as Tinkaton, stronger but without the intricate skills honed from a young age. However, they have a learning speed for forging that humans can’t match.
In Udon’s forge, the flames in the furnace burned fiercely, with Carkol occasionally throwing coal into it. Inside, there were bare-chested craftsmen, so the sound of metal clashing never stopped.
These craftsmen employed in the factory were hired normally. The prisoners of Udon’s mining camp work in the raw materials workshop, and normally weren’t allowed to touch these delicate tasks.
The efficiency of voluntary labor and forced labor is completely different. Especially with the internal ranking system, no one wants to be outdone by their peers; instead, they compete to forge higher quality weapons.
“Oni Princess, you’re here.”
The guards at the door saw Yamato with the Tinkaton and quickly stepped aside to make way. They were stationed here mainly to prevent rare materials from being secretly taken out, akin to factory security.
“This way, please. Lord Arceus has arranged everything.”
Tinkaton separately dispersed to different locations, with only one staying by Yamato’s side. They didn’t speak, merely observing the craftsmen swinging hammers, tempering, and polishing, absorbing experience fervently.
“Oni Princess, this way, please. Lord Arceus said you can choose the materials for your new weapon yourself.”
She didn’t have much to do inside the factory; forging wasn’t just about brute force. While other Tinkaton learned forging skills, the Tinkaton beside her helped her choose materials.
Distinguishing material quality didn’t require learning; it was almost instinctive for Tinkaton.
Under the guidance of other pirates, Yamato followed Tinkaton to Udon Quarry, which was similarly bustling with activity.
“Hurry, hurry! Get the materials to the square. Oni Princess will be here soon!”
“Behave yourselves, especially you lot. You’ve only got a few months left on your sentence. If you offend Oni Princess, Lord Arceus won’t spare you. Don’t even think about mining here then!”
