He was a very special case among the Blessed Ones. Due to his cybernatic body, he rarely engaged in physical training. Although he had trained his Observation Haki to a certain level with the help of his Electric-type Pokémon ability, he can’t learn Armament Haki.
In terms of defense, he relied entirely on his steel body and him being a steel-type. As for whether Haki was stronger or Devil Fruit, everyone had their own opinions, but top Devil Fruit users all had impressive physical skills.
Even Borsalino, whom Zephyr explicitly mentioned for relying too much on his abilities, is the same. Scotch wasn’t as formidable as those top-tier fighters; he was just a relatively high-ranking officer within the Beasts Pirates, and with the influx of the new generation, his ranking has been steadily declining.
However, he wasn’t particularly bothered by this. His main enemies were newcomers who had just entered the New World from Paradise. With his ability and special equipment, he was more than capable of handling most situations.
The new metal fused with Arceus Steel was what facilitated his evolution.
The evolved form of Magnemite is called Magneton, and as the name suggests, it’s three Magnemite fused together.
There are two ways for Magnemite to evolve. One is to evolve through the power belonging to Pokémon as their level increases.
The other way is for three Magnemite to merge together through magnetic force to form an entirely new life, which is Magneton. The latter is more suitable for Magnemite with slightly inferior talent.
If the quality is not enough, make up for it with quantity. When three Magnemite choose to merge, the combined strength of the three naturally satisfies the conditions for evolution.
Aside from the shift in the position of the magnets, Magneton looks no different from Magnemite other than in quantity.
Scotch belonged to those whose innate talent had already peaked, and could only achieve evolution through external means. As a long-term guard of the island, he was a typical case of someone who didn’t have many achievements, but accumulated them for being an excellent employee over time.
After the ranking battle on Onigashima ended, he gained the qualification to possess this ability, but due to some circumstances, it was delayed until now.
During this time, he had been renovating his house here. In order to facilitate battles after evolution, he had to change his residence because he previously lived in the factory area.
Magneton’s electric power is three times that of Magnemite, and due to the strong magnetic force and voltage in his body, it would involuntarily emit a kind of electromagnetic wave. This wave is highly destructive to machinery.
The more sophisticated the machine, the greater the effect. There are weapon factories and hospitals here, both housing many precise instruments.
In daily life, Scotch often entered Ability Form for convenience. If he didn’t change his residence, it could have a significant impact.
So, during this time, he has been preparing for his new home.
When Jabull brought those metals, Scotch felt a special aura from them. When his released magnetic force interacted with them, those metals began to merge into his body, marking the beginning of a completely new evolution.
Originally, he wanted to see what Scotch would look like after evolution. But just as Scotch began to evolve, the familiar alarm sounded throughout the island. This was a warning of unauthorized intruders, which happened almost every month, and most islanders had grown accustomed to it.
From initially rushing to seek refuge in panic, to calmly lining up to enter the shelter, to finally calmly drinking tea at home, this was the change that had occurred on the island over the years.
Because most alarms were just precautionary measures; less than half could break past the coastal defenses, and among them, not even a tenth could pose a threat to the inner part of the island.
In all these years, only two Super Rookies had been able to accidentally intrude into the inner part, but they were quickly dealt with.
Walking along the road, Jabull even saw an old man leisurely sunbathing, while also spotting little Jabull running over with a gun on his back.
Over the course of a dozen years, his son had grown into an adult and become a member of the security team, contributing his efforts to protecting their hometown.
“Father, have you seen Scotch-san? This group of pirates seems quite strong; they are about to break through the coastal defense line, but he hasn’t responded to the alarm.”
This was how the island divided the strength of pirates, not by bounties, but by specific performance. They would only notify Scotch if the pirates could break through the coastal defense line.
“He’s a bit busy right now. Arrange for those daredevils to evacuate first, I’ll go check the defense line.”
As Jabull spoke, he moved Little Jabull to a safer location. As for Scotch, once his evolution was complete, he would naturally rush over upon hearing the alarm.
As soon as the words fell, the alarm above became intermittent. Scotch, with several additional magnets and two large eyeballs on his body, had already appeared here.
“No need, I’m already here.”
The process of evolution wasn’t that complicated. With the absorption of the special metal complete, Scotch’s evolution had finished. However, the electromagnetic waves he emitted were affecting some devices, and the alarm was one example.
Little Jabull continued to evacuate others while he flew with Jabull towards the coast.
“Scotch, is this evolution?” After so many years, he had become quite familiar with Scotch, so he has dropped the formalities.
“That’s right, the power of evolution is truly wonderful. My thoughts are exceptionally clear now.”
Magneton didn’t double his intelligence, especially since Scotch was just an Ability user. But after evolution, he gained different abilities; the two large eyes were an external manifestation. He not only had a broader field of vision but also had the ability to think about multiple things at once.
In battles of the same level, being distracted could be fatal, but Scotch was different now. He could think about three things simultaneously without confusion. For example, he could write three different reports at the same time or play cards by himself when idle.
This wasn’t schizophrenia; it was similar to the ability of a spider to divide its consciousness within its body, creating two assistants: one responsible for the body and the other for weapons.
In battle, he could aim, charge, and fight simultaneously, or he could distract the opponent with verbal attacks while preparing for a sneak attack.
Although the cannons of the coastal defense line hadn’t been effective, they still continued to bombard, even if just to wear down the enemy’s stamina.
Without human arms in his Ability State, he used magnetic force to control metal binoculars, bringing it to his eyes. Scotch saw how the enemy dealt with cannonballs; several swordsmen were slicing the cannonballs apart with their blades.
“Swordsmen. Unlucky guys.”
Because of his ability, the ones he feared the least were swordsmen. While Scotch observed them, the people on the ship were also observing Scotch.
“Captain, there’s a weirdo out here, he has numbers written on his body like a fool!”
